Greg you asked why they started Spider-Girl over, rather than just adding "Amazing" to the existing title and continuing the series.

The best idea I can come up with is they think that by starting over at #1, new readers might be more inclined to hop on the book, thinking it'll be easier to know what's going on.

Plus, Marvel figures the fanboys love to buy #1's, so there's that.

Personally, I wish they'd just kept going from #100, because I thought it was kind of a testament to the fanbase that the book would continue to survive that long. I mean, how many series that have started in the last year or so (X-Factor, Blue Beetle, the new Atom series, etc.) could we expect will do that well?

Sorry, Mark - I'm just going by the plot summary in Previews for Leviathan. If they don't get it right, don't blame the messenger! I'm ordering it, though.

I'm also going by the preview art in Previews for Omega Men. No, it's not exactly like Flint Henry's, but there are similarities! You're right about Ezquerra, however.

Nice art though.

Do buy LEVIATHAN, though your summary of the plot is way off. And Henry Flint's art isn't really anything like Flint Henry's. It's like Mike McMahon and Carlos Ezquerra's, though.

Edward - I didn't realize Rex Mundi was a critical darling. I know Steven Grant likes it, but I haven't seen much else about it, good or bad. I've loved it since day one, though - doesn't that count for something????

And I'm not saying Blankets sucks, because I haven't read it. I just can't bring myself to get it whenever I look through it, because it looks dull. I haven't read anything about it that makes me want to try it, either, even from people who like it a lot, because even the reviews make it sound dull.

And you're right - Perhapanauts was a mess. That's why I'm torn about the new mini.

That's okay, Dan - it just means that you're dead to me! DEAD! Humor is one of the most subjective things out there, and I like that Action Philosophers! is goofy, because I think it's clever as well. I like how Van Lente and Dunleavy manage to encapsulate the philosophers' philosophy while making puns and other groan-inducing jokes, and summing things up so I don't have to read them. Because, let's be honest, a lot of philosophers make you sleepy before they even get to their main points, even the favorite of many commenters here, Ms. Ayn Rand. That's why I love it. If you prefer snooty urbane Woody Allen comedies, fine. You're still dead to me!!!!!

I'm about to villify myself, here.

I dropped Action Philosophers. I read the first three issues, and while they definitely weren't bad, they really didn't inspire the level of love I see from you, Greg. I mean, this stuff is written in a style akin to Bill Nye the Science Guy. And while I loved Bill Nye as a kid, it doesn't translate into adulthood. It's solid educational material with 3rd grade-level humor. Hey, look! Marx is going on a rampage! But then, that's it. The jokes are all very basic, one-levelers. Silly humor's fine, but I'd like some wit, too, please. I think it'd be a really fantastic comic for anyone under twelve, and it does a great job of making the material easy to understand, but it doesn't entertain me.

Yeah, you should've been buying Gotham Central in singles. They're skipping any issue with guest art. They were good stories, though, and not crossovers. It's a retarded trade policy.

Thanks for the plug, Greg! I just wrapped up BOTH versions of Issue #2 and to quote "Waiting for Guffman":

We're pleased as punch!

I'll be sending them both your way in a few weeks when the printing of pre-press copies is complete, so in the immortal words of Greg Burgas:

Whoo-hoo!

Ah, I see. Yeah, we're on track.

We've actually scheduled occasional 'skip solicit months' to make sure we stay on schedule, of which I believe the first is next month (ie the September PREVIEWS) - we figure people would rather have us skip a solicit month occasionally so that the issues come out when we say, than solicit them regardless and subsequently miss ship dates.

Regardless, yes, #4 will be out in October :)

Sorry, Antony. I have been bitten by the lateness bug on a bunch of books I like, so I'm always a little wary about being authoritative about scheduling. Good to know everything is on schedule, because the first issue was very intriguing.

Moose - I don't think he was the "regular" artist. Isn't Morales supposed to be some time in the near future? However, I thought Williams was going to do six issues or so before Morales came on. That's why I'm a bit grumpy.

The first Perhapanauts story won me over with the wacky solicitation text, but the final mini-series was a total mess, with 2.5 stories in 4 issues. Issue 4 feels like they stopped mid-story only because they ran out of pages. I believe Dark Horse has done this kind of thing before (Kelley Jones' 13th Son did it and one other mini I can't quite remember), but it's a rotten trick to pull.

Action Philosophers #6 is due out on August 16 (next week!). The fine folks at Evil Twin Comics have even put up the full story of St. Thomas Aquinas at http://www.eviltwincomics.com/action/ap6.php. C'mon, kids -- free comics and 5 different proofs of the existence of God, plus a bunch of fat jokes at St. Thomas Aquinas' expense. How can you go wrong?

And I'm glad that I'm not the only one who's totally unimpressed with Owly and Blankets. If you didn't like Rex Mundi also, I'd think you were my "doesn't like the comics' critical darlings" clone.

I find myself tempted to get The Omega Men #1 just for Henry Flint's art - I love his crinkly Judge Dredd and his lovely sharp ABC Warriors.

Also: Yay, the return of Godland!

"Gee, J. H. Williams III is not the artist on Detective Comics #824 on page 63. That’s a shock."

Was Williams ever announced as the regular artist on Detective? I thought the plan was he'd do some issues, but that the comic would have different art teams on various months.

Leviathan was actually a pretty good, effective little horror comic. I'd recommend people get it.
