Dinah's BEYOND that. That's why she gets her own label.

Okay. I confess that despite having just postyed a snarky column about reboots and retellings and going back to the well over and over....

... I <I>swooned</i> over the Lone Ranger. Loved it. It's a Western, it's old-school, it's got Sergio Carello, and man, it's the <i>Ranger.</i>

What can I say? I fell for a reboot. I'm a big stinky hypocrite. But it's a great book. I was going to say something nice about it and forgot so I'm glad one of us gave it a push. You all should check it out. If you don't support the Lone Ranger, you hate America and the terrorists win.

Skrulls?

Marvel really are ignoring their own <b>Annihilation</b>, aren't they?

Interesting that <b>Annihilation</b> wasn't allowed to use the Shi'ar because of Brubaker's story, but he's allowed to use the Skrulls.

<i>"And that was only good as a concept.

"His execution of the story was terrible."</i>

Oh God, yes. Based off the premise and hype, I went into 30 Days of Night expecting some kind of tense, character-driven horror detailing people attempting to survive and avoid detection for an entire month in a town under siege by Vampires. Instead Niles jumped right from the first day to the last day and the big climactic fight between issues while he apparently had no idea that he was defeating the entire point of the premise by doing that.

Ahh, you're right, T. It is quite McFarlaney. And the cover does resemble Clooney. Hmm. But Ivy isn't very Uma-y...

Moose - well, Brian Wood should come here and tell us whether we're supposed to hate Megan or not, but I do. I don't think she's necessarily a "bad" person (she doesn't kick dogs, as far as I can tell), and I don't think she herself is inexplicably horrible, but she does inexplicably horrible things. I can understand some of the things she does - as stupid as they may be - but I just don't understand why she just couldn't leave Gloria alone. So Gloria ignored her invitation to come and have a drink. She just met Megan, and who cares if they're friends anyway? Instead of shrugging it off, like most normal people would do, she totally invades her privacy. Last issue, she just made up names for herself (which, on one level, I can understand, as she's trying to reinvent herself), but got meaner and meaner about it as the issue went along - and still learned nothing from it. I'm still very intrigued by her, and I hope I will like her by the end of the book, but I hate her right now.

Looking back at Emissary, that page screw-up helps clarify things a little if you read it that way, and the fact that it is screwed up makes the issue feel more disjointed, but it doesn't change my basic criticism of the issue. It's weird that it slipped through, though.

And yes - comics were weird this week. Look to the sky, Paperghost! It was a full moon!

"showing us how awful people are, and showing us how decent people can be. It’s a very nice contrast."

This was just how I felt after finishing this, my first, issue of Fell (I picked it up on a whim because of the first panel).

It's like some of the quieter more thoughtful Transmet moments, going to have to hunt down the earlier issues.

I don't think you're meant to hate Megan in Local. She's not really hatable, she's just a screwed-up kid who's made some dumb mistakes and is trying - and so far failing - to put her life back together. Most of us have gone through some period like that at one point or another. The character is sad and pathetic and frustrating at times, but not a bad person, and certainly not "inexplicably horrible."

Bill, I'd go with a Art Adams/Todd McFarlane cross myself, I definitely see a lot of McFarlane in there, especially with the inks and the detailing in the rocks and trees.

I liked the art, except for all the gratuitous cheesecake. Batman and Robin looked very cool.

I think the Batman face on the cover was meant to look like Clooney. Seriously, look at it.

IM with you on Emissary. I really WANT to like it, and I really did like the first few issues, but dang if it didnt feel rushed in this issue. Over on Image's message board Kristen Simon said a few pages got switched, which actually did impact the flow and arc of the timeline... she said "...a couple pages were switched up in the printing process, which also seems to pertain to thinking only a few days have passed. Cameron, Tara's son, asks his dad when his mom is coming home...he says he doesn't know...and the next page has Tara there. That page is not supposed to be next. It's supposed to come in the page AFTER Tara asks Emissary if he'll be all right waiting outside. So page 13 was moved to page 9 for some reason."

The page you picked in Detective was nothing compared to the page where she's held in bondage by the trunks of the trees with her breasts held apart, and wood in her mouth.

Batman and Robin looked cool though. It's still the same colourist as the JH issue, so i'm guessing they made it like vintage image because it was a poison ivy issue anyway?

Kelson - I totally agree. I don't know, I guess it just took me by surprise. I'm not sure if we needed it to know that something is wrong in the relationship. It wasn't enough to make me completely dislike the book, and I'm going to keep buying it, but it was just jarring. I'll get over it!

I think the <i>Noble Causes</i> opening scene was <b>supposed</b> to be icky and disturbing. It's a huge contrast to the way we've always seen Race and Liz in the past. In particular I find myself thinking of the story around #7 or 8 in which Race decides to spend a day at normal speed so that he and Liz can share the experience of being a "normal" couple. Look at the way that day ends for them, vs. the way this day starts.

It drives home very strongly that something is massively wrong in the relationship, and Race in particular, far more effectively than just hearing about it would.

I've never gotten the appeal of Steve Niles and the dreadful preview of Creeper in "Brave New World" was enough to keep me away from the series. Seriously, Niles sucks--he had one good concept, "30 Days of Night" but everything else I've read from this guy blows donkeys. It's amazing how hacks like him keep getting work in this business.

The Daily Show mentioned Rush City as an example of new types of advertising. Lewis Black made a joke that said "Plymoth don't let your Mom pick you up in anything else."

Benitez is like the frightening love child of Art Adams and Marc Silvestri. No one needs that. I mean, it's okay, but the cheesecake is way too over-the-top and the art's too roughly inked, you know?

Also, you said "Like you don’t buy things you know aren’t good for you." Yeah... okay, I admit it. I'll have to turn in my beret, because I bought Snakes on a Plane #1, which completely misses the point of the movie. And I got Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, because Fin Fang Foom was in it.

And I didn't buy Agents of Atlas, because I'm spending way too damn much on comics. I'll probably be kicking myself for that sometime...

I guess Benitez's art in Detective wasn't great, but coming off that Don Kramer issue it felt like Ditko, Romita and Steranko all wrapped into one.
