muldertp you're right. Action Figure #1 didn't make Diamond's new minimum order. That's why there was such a long delay from the catalog entry to the actual printing, I had to pay for the printing with no shop orders. You can only get it through my website.

Thanks for the review Greg, I appreciate it.

You're right. I re-read the issue and Revise specifically says that the Bagmen killed two Fables, and then that the tiger killed Toto, so its probably three deaths all together. In which case, I'd guess its two of the tiny trampled people and Toto. But you are right, it is annoying to mention the deaths without being more specific. Hopefully we'll find out for sure in the future.

I thought that, too, Michael, at least about Toto, but Revise mentions Toto in addition to the Bagmen, because the Bagmen didn't kill Toto. I suppose it's not important, it just seems strange to mention it in passing and not tell us who they were.

''I was also a bit confused by something Revise says about the Bagmen killing two Fables. I looked through the book and couldn’t find where that happened. Don’t mention it unless you show it, or at least tell us who died!''

''Why this issue of Jack of Fables is the greatest issue ever!!!! A tiger eats Toto. No, not that Toto (although how cool would that have been?). The other Toto. Isn’t he the most annoying thing in the movie? Don’t you wish the Cowardly Lion had eaten him at some point?''

I'm guessing Toto is one of the two Fables killed... Not sure about the second, but the Bagman sneaking up on Jack on the last page is shown a few pages before trampling a bunch of tiny people after crossing a stream (ironic if they were the same ones who were telling the ''damned munchkin giants'' to watch were they stepped earlier). Maybe Revise meant one of them.

Not JSA, JLA Classified.

Morrison did the first arc on the title, and it featured Ne-Bu-Loh, who shows up partially because the two teams featured (JLA and the Ultramarines) both feature seven members, so they feared THEY were the Seven Soldiers.

Sorry, I'm really lost now - JSA fits into the Seven Soldiers of Victory???

My trades mention nothing of this!
(and I really hate the way they've done the trades by the way - in order of release! They don't trust us to pick where the stories meet?)

Classified doesn't seem that important from a plot point, but having an earnest superhero fight into the main epic does more to counterbalance the violence of the main series, which is mostly from inexperienced supeheroes. So, probably unimportant to actually reread, but it's important to keep in mind when analyzing the work's incessant youth vs. experience motif, as applied to Morrison's nervous tic of metacommentary.

Besides, McGuinness' art is sure pretty compared to Bianchi's progessively worse Shining Knight and definitely Mister Miracle's "art" job.

Or better yet, you could’ve reread all the minis (plus JLA Classified 1-3) prior to the release of Seven Soldiers #1.

Bah, that would include FORESIGHT!!

And should I really break out JLA Classified, too?

On Action Figure #1 - the first issue was cancelled not because it was late, but because of Diamond's newish policy of cancelling books that don't make a certain number in the orders. Unfortunately, I must have missed it's reoffering and will have to hunt it down.

Well, you know I love Rogue, but she’s even more bad-ass than usual in this issue. Every word out of her mouth I love.

I especially loved that every word out of her mouth wasn't phonetic cornporn Southern dialect approximation attempts. When did they stop that? 'Bout time.

I haven't read SS#1 yet. I fully intend to do the same thing with Seven Soldiers, just so I can understand all the nuances it inevitably has--but why did it have to finally come out while I was in the middle of reading the Bone one volume edition? I'm going to get serious epic overload here. Also, I want to see Frankenstein fight rat creatures.

Dave - yeah, you're right - I missed the Northstar reference (which was dumb of me), so the team name is The Homosexuality. I would love if the character was called that, but it doesn't change the fact that naming the team The Homosexuality is excellent!

Wow, I think you actually reviewed every comic I bought this week! Comments on them in order they appear in the review:
The Boys: Am I the only one who noticed the absolutely atrocious replacement panels drawn into the orgy scene? They're clearly not Robertson, and they look rushed, unfinished, generally hideous, and they really disrupt the flow of the page. Hopefully they'll present the original art in the TPB or it'll get leaked in some way, because the final product is pretty aesthetically offensive.

Nextwave: I'm pretty sure "The Homosexuality" was the name of the team and not another unseen character other than the Apollo, Northstar, Midnighter and Renee Montoya jokes.

Planetary: Yep, there's one more issue. I believe Ellis mentioned a while ago that issue #26 would resolve the main conflict and that #27 would be the epilogue that closed the series. (probably Ambrose's revival, I'm guessing.)

Wetworks: I actually liked this issue a bit more than the first one, although the only sequence that I particularly thought interesting was the Ab-Death fight in the deadworld. At least it made me think that Carey may be doing something more than the Cyborgs with chainguns material that comprised the first series. I was on the fence after the first issue, but I'm sticking with this for another month for now

X-Men: I'm by far enjoying this series the most of any X-title running right now. Though not necessarily the flashiest cast, it's an interesting enough collection of characters for the team, and I think Carey's got a great handle on the personalities of the team members. It's nothing particularly amazing yet, but it just works for me, and I can see a lot of potential for this series in the long term if Carey sticks with it.

I forgot about The Prisoner reference, which I've seen before in regard to DP. Sigh. Ellis ripping off the same source as Morrison is doubly bad, because neither one of them is being original!!!!

When I write the X-Men (it’s coming, trust me!) I too will kill off a character in a wildly minor fashion. Ah, but who will it be? That’s the question.

You'll totally kill Wolverine off-panel. He'll forget to use the crosswalk and get creamed by a bus - a mutant bus that cancels his healing factor.

even if Ellis blatantly rips off Number None (the name, at least) from Morrison’s Doom Patrol

Not quite true. Both Ellis and Morrison are making separate references to The Prisoner. Hell, if you read The Invisibles, you'll know that Morrison drops a Prisoner reference about every three panels.
