Right you are, Greg, but I didn't say you were being complimentary, only that you were being kind. Which would also be true if you didn't like it and refrained from saying so blatantly.

So, with that behind us I can now safely say thank you for the compliment.:)

BTW, I'll step out on a limb here and try to reciprocate your graciousness with a far fetched statement that's yours to do with as you like. I believe from everything that was being published in the late 70's that might havbe inspired the Liefeld/Lee/Mcfarlane layout approach at Marvel in the 80's (which gave birth to the early Image look...) Well, based on what I've heard from some sources, it's pretty safe to base a premise upon the idea that Mike Nasser's DC work on Legion, Green Arrow/Black Canary, Kobra, Wonder Woman, Supergirl and more... were all a primary inspiration for the powerful large image design of comics pages that the founders of Image perpetuated in the 80's and ealy 90's.

I'm sure that with a little bit of reasearch, a good supporting case can be presented visually for such a revolutionary notion.

Ah, but Michael, how do you know I was being complimentary? :) I was thinking it looked like the Huntress mini-series you did in the mid-90s, plus the brief run you had on Detective. That was one of the first times I bought mainstream comics with art that didn't simply look like "normal" stuff, and it was really neat. It made me look for other more experimental stuff, so good job!

I have been told by Mark Millar and Rob Leifeld that my early work at DC, under the name of Mike Nasser, also held some inspiration to what the look of "Image" art was perceived to be in its early years - large dramatic images and perhaps slightly thin on storytelling. Much of my 70's DC art had a similar quality and punch. For one more often associated with being someone else's look alike, it's nice to to hear about the other side of the coin.

David Aja's Iron Fist previews show a very talented and accomplished artist and there exists some kinship to our approach. Thank you for the kind remark, Greg.

You should probably use tongs to handle it, mulder (can I call you Spooky?). And wear a hazmat suit. Even then, you might still be infected by it and start finding your feet obscured all the time and your teeth constantly gritted. Is an Ed McGuinness cover worth all that?

On Onslaught...I'm buying the book to get the Ed McGuinness cover. Am I free from wrath if I choose not to subject myself to the mind-numbing (or piercing) content therein? =P

Thank you, Jer. I thought he was a romance novelist, but it works for any novelist. What freakin' great books those Dirk Gently ones were.

"I remember reading a book once (sorry, I can’t recall which one) in which it was mentioned that a certain romance writer had the perfect romance novel name, because his first name was long and his last name was short, and therefore could be written in nice block letters on the cover and everyone would be drawn in, no matter whether the book was actually good or not. "

Douglas Adams - The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul - discussing the bestselling novelist "Howard Bell" and why his name was perfect for publishing best-selling novels. I don't think he was a romance author, though, just a bestseller. I think he was a stand-in for Adams making fun of himself and his own fame.

The preview issue of Chronicles of Wormwood seemed fairly promising for the most part, and Burrows's art is definitely looking great. I'd recommend picking it up to see if you like it if only because it takes so goddamn long for Avatar to get around to releasing a trade of anything they publish. I mean, 303 wrapped some time last fall, and the trade isn't even coming out until after this Christmas.

Speaking of Avatar and "takes so goddamn long," what the hell happened to Wolfskin?

DC changed the contents of the "Greatest Stories" books. So, if you've got the old Greatest Batman Stories vol.1, the contents aren't the same as the new printing with the ugly Alex Ross cover. Ditto for the second one- which originally had all Catwoman and Penguin stories (it was released at the time of Batman Returns). The new versions are a lot suckier than the old ones.

While none of your picks look interesting to me - I will note that IT RHYMES WITH LUST was reprinted in the July COMICS JOURNAL. Nice crime story.

I am enjoying thje Leading Man in single issue format. The premise is clever and the story takes advantage of it well, I think. Not my favorite book, but better than a lot of the mainstream stuff.
