So, to get a cool point, do we have to actually name our kid Septimus?

That would be way more cool points than just one!

One whole cool point! Whoo...Thanks Brian! I knew there would be some people out there who could appreciate the awesomeness that is the name Septimus. And screw the kids in the school yard because 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger' and such. And besides, we'll put him in the U.N. school, he'll fit right in.

Whoa. That Super President show sounds seriously goofy. I mean, did he actually go by the name Super PRESEIDENT!? Wouldn't that completely blow his secret id? And how did he build a secret headquarters under the White House and keep it secret? I've always been bothered by the notion of "secret" headquarters built under very public places. How could they possible build them and keep them secret?

I'd like to name my first born kid Septimus.

I won't however, because after years of torment in the school yard, he'd/she'd ask me why I did it, and when I said it was for a 'cool point' on CSBG, both my life, and Brian Cronin's, would be in jepordy.
That or he'd/she'd spend his life on a fruitless quest to find the other six kids I must've had.

I'd sure like to though.

So, to get a cool point, do we have to actually name our kid Septimus? Because it sounds like we could get one just if we would like to. If so, sure, I'd love to name my kid Septimus, but I don't think my wife will let me.

While he wasn't a superHERO, Sen. Stephen Shaffran was the villain Ricochet in the early issues of Peter David's first run on X-Factor.

Ah, but the shelved MS. MARVEL #25 (Rogue's intended 1st appearance) was published in MARVEL SUPER-HEROES #11 (Oct 92), with art by Mike Vosburg. So Vosburg's my pick.

My Superman knowledge is crap, but before becoming Ruin (pre-Prof. Hamilton retcon), Pete Ross was Luthor's Vice President. So though not technically a "senator," he was Senate President.

Cheating again: in the X-Men movie, Robert Kelly was senator before becoming a mutant goo-blob.

Well, presumably Super President was a senator or governor before becoming a super hero:

I know about the Kingdom-based origin for the Stranger, but given that The Kingdom was absolute crap and the origin it proposes stems from Waidian fannishness (”he’s the son of Wonder Woman and Superman! eeeeeee!”), it should be ignored by all right-thinking people."

Actually, that origin was disproved within THE KINGDOM -- it was a red herring, where Wonder Woman directly stated that the mysterious figure WASN'T the Stranger.

That SECRET ORIGINS issue gave the Phantom Stranger four possible origins, actually. Everyone tends to focus on the "fallen angel" one because it was written by Saint Alan, but the truth is it's not the most compelling origin of the bunch (I always liked the story where he's the Old Testament-era human who gets spared from divine wrath, but protests the arbitrary nature of divine judgment by committing suicide). Certainly if there's any character in the DCU who cries out not to have a concrete origin provided for him, it's the Phantom Stranger.

Educated guesses, all of these...

>

The last time I can remember was in the FANTASTIC FOUR VS. THE X-MEN mini. Ben, having been led to believe that Reed purposely set up the flight that gave the FF their powers, reflects on his lonely life in a bar, noting, "Loved Susie, but she went for Stretch."

>

THE TRENCHCOAT BRIGADE #1 postulates that origin #1 from the SECRET ORIGINS issue is correct, that he's a fallen angel. I dimly remember there being another origin in VERTIGO VISIONS, but I don't remember what it was and the book was weird and confusing anyway.

>

The obvious answer is WOLVERINE (mini-series) #1, but I'm betting there's a trick...

Oh, and Denny O'Neil didn't invent Arkham Asylum; an Arkham Asylum turns up in one of H.P. Lovecraft's stories set in the fictional Massachusetts town of that name. Indeed, when Denny first used the Arkham Mental Hospital in his Batman stories, it wasn't in Gotham, but in Arkham, Massachusetts.

The original Black Condor took the name and civilian identity of a conveniently physically identical Senator to enter human society after turning up as the Black Condor.

Also, since Rogue was meant to debut in Ms. Marvel before it was cancelled, I suspect that John Byrne may have designed the costume rather than Mike Golden.

A Post-COIE Vartox turned up during Team Superman #1, and then met Superman in Superman v.2 #148 and 150 as one of many alien heroes trying to thwart Brainiac's interstellar rampage. He may have been seen since, but that's the last time I remember him turning up.

Oh, and I would like to name my first-born Septimus, if only because I love Virginia Woolf's novel Mrs. Dalloway.

Wasn't the original Black Condor a senator before being a superhero?

And you don't name your first-born Septimus. That's silly. You name your seventh-born Septimus. Your first born is, I don't know, Primus or something.
