Okay, as long as we're now all convinced it was Dan Didio (even though it probably wasn't) then my work here is done. I shall now look for other weblogs to spread my near pathological annoyance at all things Didio, even when they actually have nothing to do with him. I mean - its better to be safe than sorry, right?

Logically I can see the blame lying with DiDio. The idea of getting rid of a Batgirl totally fits into his mindless "anti-redundancy" agenda that made him want to take out Nightwing and Booster.
I mean Cassandra had her fans and all, but she didn't really serve an integral role in the DCU, and from a distance, "mute asian assassin girl" sounds like a gimmicky crowd-filler villain.

I don't know- it certainly seems more like an editorial mandate than an organic decision that grew out of the stories.

On a related note, does anyone know whose idea it was to make Batgirl a mute ninja in a BDSM suit?
