You haven’t arrived in the superhero community until Hulk has given you a nickname designed to make it easier for him to identify you. Usually, an identifiable characteristic of yours will be the basis for the nickname. Hulk could find work as a scathing caricaturist, always cutting to the essence of every hero.
Here are my picks for today’s Top Five (the idea is courtesy of suedenim) of the Top Five Best Nicknames Given by the Hulk to other superheroes (thanks to Mike and Dave for jogging my memory on some of these).
Enjoy!
These are pretty straightforward, so I’m not going to give big explanations for each one. Instead, I’ll just lay them all out!
5. Fish Man

4. Bug Man

3. Sword Girl

2. Dumb Magician

I couldn’t find a better cover featuring Doctor Strange and the dumb green Hulk - isn’t that odd?
1. Bird Nose

Agree? Disagree? Let me know!

I have a warm spot in my heart for “Bird Nose” not because of the Hulk, but because the creators of Justice League Unlimited appropriated the name when they did their version of the Defenders. Awww!

Great idea for a Top Five!
I have a soft spot for the nicknames Ultimate Hulk whips out in the first Ultimate series…’Blue Man’ for Captain America and ‘Naked Guy’ for, well…the naked alien fella.

I move that Hulk begin calling Wolverine “Stabby Man”.

Captain America was “Flag Man,” I think? Though it seems to me Hulk might have had more than one name for Cap.

Yeah, Cap missed the list because Hulk had too many for him.

Excellent question!

I kinda liked the way he called Iceman “Ice-Man” in the recent Giant-Size Hulk, prompting Iceman to consider the obviousness of his codename (again).

Ha!
Yeah, that was neat!
So THAT’S why my pal Mike gave me a bunch of Champions choices!! The recent Giant-Size Hulk!

I was always partial to the nickname he gave Thor. Now if I could just remember it exactly… (Goldilocks? Long-hair?)

The only bright spot for me in the Sentry tie-in issues where he hung out with Spidey or the FF was the Hulk one, because Hulk looked just so damn happy to see “GOLDEN MAN!!!” it gave me hope for the Sentry’s future.
So much for that.

Don’t for about SKIRT-MAN. Hulk called Hercules this in the GIANT-SIZE HULK that came out last summer.

Skirt Man ALMOST made the list, but I just didn’t recall them interacting enough for it to be fun.

I know the Hulk called Thor a lot of names but I remember “Long Hair” from back around #255 or so. Seems to generic to make the list.

Didn’t Hulk coin the name Shellhead for Iron-Man?
That Defenders cover would be so much better if it said “Bird Nose No More.”

“I move that Hulk begin calling Wolverine “Stabby Man”.”
In MTU, Invincible had a lot of Hulk like names for the New Avengers.
Wolverine was Claw Man. The best was Luke Cage… “Black Man.”

Dude, great hulk/strange cover on #299. Check it out.

Yeah, but that was SAVAGE Hulk, not big dumb Hulk!
Strange also appears on the cover of #450, I believe, but again, not big dumb Hulk, and it is only big dumb Hulk who calls him “Dumb Magician.”

Then there’s always “Cape Man” for Superman in the second Superman/Spider-Man crossover.

“Funny, but how come the lil’ clawed Canadian hasn’t been honored by a nickname ??!”
As far as the Ultimate versions go, wouldn’t the nickname have to be “Christmas Cracker”?
(Or maybe “wishbone man”)
