Sorry – It’s just that Byrne has a history of saying insensitive things in the wake of people dying (Christopher Reeve and Steve Irwin) and has also upset Cockrum’s wife in the past, so I thought the odds were good.

Seems to me John’s been very respectful, honest, and appreciative to Dave.

This is a real shame. I knew that he had been sick for quite some time, but didn’t realize that he had died. I always liked his art, it was clean and fun, and he was a genius at coming up with costumes and characters.

He was instrumental in reviving two huge franchises for both DC (LSH) and Marvel (X-Men). He was a huge talent in the industry. My condolences to his family.

Oh man, that’s just sad.
I really thought that he was an okay artist- he was definitely good at what he did in life. And without him, we wouldn’t have the X-Men (or comics in general) that we have today.

damn.

Cockrum’s “pirate style” design sense was unique, and his art, which has it’s own distinctive flair, was always immediately recognizable.

While he wasn’t my “all-time” favorite, I did cut my teeth on his early X-MEN stuff when I was a kid.

I’ll have to dig out his old “FUTURIANS” graphic novel and comics.

I liked that team.
