"And I keep thinking that, y’know, all of us in the 70’s and 80’s bellowing about how Important! and Literary! and SERIOUS! superheroes should be… we were idiots. That’s the kind of thinking that gets you a rapist on the JLA satellite. I loved Watchmen as much as everyone else did, but even in 1986 I knew I didn’t want the League or the Avengers done that way… but I couldn’t have told you the REASON it felt wrong before doing the column about it. It’s one of those things you have to work out by setting it out in print."

I brought the collection of stories Alan Moore wrote in the DCU the other day. Back before Crisis.
I've only read one, a Superman Annual - featuring the pre-crisis Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman (a batman who smiles, buys Birthday presents, and says 'chum') and a new to the game Jason Todd.
I loved it. I really loved it. It was fun to read. It wasn't silly or ridiculous, and it had character moments, and some serious bits, but it was fun.
Much more fun than anything I've read featuring Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman recently anyway.

Phew.
I was worried that when you mentioned a year, and never thought you could do it, and then looked back, that in the last paragraph you were going to announce it as your last column.
It would save me some money if you did, as you often give me the urge to hit e-bay and hunt, or pick up Essentials I wouldn't have otherwise (although you haven't mentioned it, Tales Of The Zombie is the latest. I wanted to see what the articles are like. Don Mcgregor writing about why 'Live And Let Die' is a bad movie is hilarious - especially if like myself, you've recently watched it and all Bond before it - The Connery films aren't that good on the whole - and Mcgregor is whining, like a fan boy, that it isn't as good as the old one's (which he obviously hadn't watched recently), yet he does it in his Mcgregor, long winded pretentious style. Beautiful stuff).

Anyway, keep it up. I often have to work weekends, and like to start my Saturday mornings with a coffee and reading the column.
(either that or spend them mailing Brian, demanding he put the pressuree on to get them up).

"Man, that was an awfully smart move adding Hatcher to the blog.

Whoever came up with that idea must be brilliant."

It was probably Roy Thomas.
He invented everything that was good in, about, or to do with comics.

Wow, thanks for noticing! I couldn't help but share that little tidbit, though, so thank you for all your hard work. It was an excellent post you did.

Glad to hear it Greg. I was half expecting you to set your readers up for a big fall with something like "a year has been good run, but it's time to move on to something else." Glad you're not leaving! Your posts and insights about the industry are always interesting and have even sparked my creative writing engine on a few occasions. Keep up the good work!
