Oh, and I bought Ultimate Alliance, and for some reason, my wife loves it. She saw me playing and wanted to join in, and liked it so much she decreed that I couldn't play it without her. It's lots of fun, and I love all the cameos by pretty much everyone. I think she just likes smashing bad guys, and she laughs at me when I geek out over Modok or somebody.

As for other comics to adapt into video games, I'm almost surprised nobody has done a Sin City beat-em-up game (maybe when the next movie comes out), and I think a Groo hack-n-slash/Dynasty Warriors game would be awesome.

Man, I feel like the only person who didn't like Batman/Spirit. You can check out my blog to see my full review, but I can give two good complaints here: A) Pretty much the whole rogues' galleries of both heroes shows up, but most of them have nothing to do; they just sit on a boat watching the action through binoculars. 2) Batman and the Spirit don't actually stop the evil scheme. Explosives are placed, the trigger is pulled, the detonator is tripped, and they are too late to save the day. Luckily, the Joker switched the gun with a trick gun and the bomb with confetti. So the only reason everybody didn't die is because the Joker decided not to kill them. And then the good guys beat him up. Lame. The art was good though. I'm looking forward to the series, but after this I'm very glad Loeb won't be coming along for the ride.

I'm surprised there's not more comic-blog love for Ultimate Alliance, for exactly the reasons you've mentioned. Being able to team Ghost-Rider-Blue-Jumpsuit w/the Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill is what I've always wanted from a mindless button-masher of a game. The fact that there's a dedicated (and brilliant!) mod-community forming around it makes it even better: Colossus and Moon Knight have been unlocked for the PC version, and someone has even included the Mandarin (!) as a playable character. Good stuff. That said, look at some of the gaming boards for some truly depressing character preferences (no, people, the Dan Ketch Ghost Rider does NOT rock. And if The Surfer, Thor, Black Panther and Captain America can't handle a problem, Elektra is not going to help. She wears lingerie into battle. That's her superpower, and it sucks. She should be airbrushed on the hood of a Camaro, not fighting Galactus.)

I'd totally buy an Action Philosophers game or a Finder game. Either of those would rock HARD. Y'know, in a funny, outside-the-mainstream sort of way...

Jimmy Corrigan-- the Game. I'd by a 360 just to play that (but not a PS3).

Might I suggest a Goodbye Chunky Rice RPG? The point of the game is to get Chunky away from his little mouse friend without sobbing uncontrolably. And It's a Good Life if You Don't Weaken practically BEGS to be made!

This is fun!

I too need to stay off eBay. I just bought almost a full run of the Morbius the Living Vampire series from the 90's. Why would a person do that??

Ultimate Alliance does indeed rock more than any comic Marvel has put out this year.

I don't know about the folks doing the Marvel games, but I have friends at Bioware, and they're pretty much all huge Star Wars fans - for them, Knights of the Old Republic was a once-in-a-career rush. I'd guess that a lot of the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance crew are the same way, relishing the reengagement with childhood delights. It seems like people who haven't been dealing with the source material all their adult lives may have a better handle on its essence.

<i>"The Watcher! In a video game! I’ve been waiting for that since I was 8 and read my first issue of What If?"</i>

You do know he was in Neversoft's first Spider-man game, aye?

"Loeb gets a lot of shit on the interweb*"

Yeah, but most fans are incapable of grasping the intracate subtelteis of the guy's work, and are forced to rereading simpler stuff like Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman.

LOL! Lost Girls: the Video Game...absolute genius! Although it would be priced at $300 and Alan Moore would do interviews stating that his name would have to be removed from the credits.
