This series was pretty good in my opinion. They screwed around with it too much when it lost the mysterious aspect of the order of St Dumas and changed Azrael into a hideous new costume. The complaint about expository dialogue is noted, but comics used to make an effort to initiate new readers by catching them up to speed with the goings on in a specific issue and a title as a whole. I don't know how many times I have seen someone post that they saw that a series was already on issue 92 and state that they didn't feel that they could catch on. Not many comics readers started out with issue 1 of classics like the Fantastic Four or Batman.

I was reading this series for a while when it was coming out... I remember thinking that flip was all wrong then as well but apparently that wasn't enough to get me to stop picking up the series. I probably still have the 50 issues I collected of it buried somewhere, time for a collection trimming methinks.

I don't think it's really fair to criticize Ra's dialogue for not explaining the Lazarus Pit. That's the kind of unnecessary and clunky expository speech that haunts all the golden and silver age stuff.

I always ask, "Who are you explaining this for?" If the answer is "the reader", then it shouldn't be dialogue.

Yeah, Ra's along with Azrael to a lesser degree really do bring out Denny's Mary Sue skills, huh?

I don't know why you subject yourself to this, Greg. But then, I own two random issues of Azrael too, so I guess I can't talk.

And yeah, Ra's and Strange must have the same tailor.

Why does Ras look like Dr. Strange on the cover down to the color scheme?
