Greg, I like the writing style which mixes intellectual analysis with conversational humor. It seems like that's the kind of guy you are in real life, so why wouldn't you want to reflect that in your writing.

I can think of another guy who tries to mix intellectual analysis with humor in his work: hint, his initials are GM.

"FunkyGreenJerusalem: I’m glad to have conformed to, er, whatever view of me you apparently have. I think."

I just think I'm immune to Greg's apparent snarkiness (or am so snarky myself it just seems like kid stuff), so it always seems odd to me when people point it out.
Or, in other words, I don't have a view of you, I just like laughing at Greg at his inability to post without annoying someone for some reason.

"Speaking of ad-hominem…didn’t Fanboy Rampage shut down quite a while ago? No need to be so hostile."
It's not hostile, it's making fun.
In Gil's case, yeah, maybe a bit strong (though not really), I just thought it an odd complaint to make - surely it was no stronger than calling someone jealous?

As for making fun of Morrison, well, saying you got ripped off by The Matrix, was ridiculous.
If by ripped off you mean they took from the same sources you do, sure. But otherwise, quite silly indeed.

Frankenstein: Great Seven Soldiers series, or Greatest Seven Soldiers series?

I'd side with greatest, myself, probably.

Jacob - I was wondering about the lack of Kim later in the series. It was kind of bizarre.

Sorry, Gil - I really do love Morrison's writing, despite the snarkiness. And why wouldn't I be jealous? He gets all the babes! But I'll try to tone it down!

"C’mon Greg, don’t fuck with Morrison fans!
They’re zealots they are, and they take their stories about men in spandex, and it’s writer, VERY seriously.
We’re talking about the guy who invented the matrix after all!"

Speaking of ad-hominem...didn't Fanboy Rampage shut down quite a while ago? No need to be so hostile.

One thing is particular that I thought was interesting about this issue and more particularly, this miniseries is that Kim does not further follow Frankenstein. One of the themes that Morrison seems to be hung up on in 7 Soldiers is familiars and he deliberately makes a point to throw that theme to the side for this mini. Anybody wanna read more into that?

"They actually make you sound a bit, well, jealous, I guess, if you feel you have to resort to ad-hominem commentary whenever this particular theme arises."

I'm enjoying these annotations a lot, but could I make a request? The jokey snarkiness about Morrison is starting to wear thin. (Actually it wore thin very early on.) Today's comments about how he can't drive a car and doesn't take lab-created medicine were exceptionally pointless. A writer doesn't have to agree with the themes of his own story.

I don't think it would hurt to knock it off, as for me these asides really detract from a very insightful investigation into Morrison's themes and ideas. Just my opinion, and if you really feel it's necessary then obviously it's your column. But if they're supposed to sound like jokey asides... they don't. They actually make you sound a bit, well, jealous, I guess, if you feel you have to resort to ad-hominem commentary whenever this particular theme arises.

Other than that, as I say, I'm finding this column a great read, and I tune in every day for the latest chapter. Rereading "7 Soldiers" with the browser open will be a fascinating endeavour in early January.

About the quote, he's telling Kim's kin, i.e. mankind, to arm themselves in preparation of the coming events of the series. In the second part of the quote, he leaves Kim with a message to deliver to the Sheeda and Melmouth that due the folly of the Sheeda's actions (arguable whether it's simply the actions in this issue or their actions in general), that Frankenstein is back. This is with the intention to strike fear into the Sheeda and particularly Melmouth, as from the start of the issue we know they are already familiar with how formidable an opponent Frankenstein is.
