Quitely’s art is always a treat. James Jean on fables is sublime, but he’s done some really bad Batman covers.

I agree with you, cute widdle wabbit. I don’t think Jean is bad by any means, but I do think his covers begin to run together after a while.

Hard to say.

Quitely is obviously the better comic artist in general. IMO only JH Williams can challenge him when it comes to drawing the pages. Maybe John Totleben, but I’m a fanboy.

But… covers? I dunno. I can’t think of any really memorable Quitely covers. I mean, I doubt he’s ever done a bad one, but… I can’t think of any covers that jump out at me as ‘amazing’ like some of his interior work.

Meanwhile Jean is consistently passable, usually good and eye-catching, and occassionally has moments of brilliance.

I’m going to have to disagree with you here, 3.

See, it’s the word “cover” that’s putting me in the dilemma here. Quitely’s one of, maybe the best comics artist we’ve got now, but I think guys like Jean and Bolland and a few others who’ve all slipped my mind at the moment have sewn up the cover bit.

Frankly, 3, I’m surprised they haven’t made stew out of you for this yet.

Quite the opposite in fact. James Jean has a FAR superior sense of design and a much stronger command of the medium. I believe Quitely might come up with better cover CONCEPTS than Jean, but Jean is much better at executing said concepts on that little rectangle of paper.

I agree, sir. Jean’s work is painterly art and all very good but Quitely’s is at least rooted in the genre. Neither are anywhere near the pinnacle of their trade but Quitely at least brings a nod towards the tradition of the comic cover. Jean, I guess, is the Rockwell of his time, but a Rockwell without soul.

Oh Rabbit, when will you stop trying to stir up controversy? Is this a desparate bid for attention? Are you being neglected at home? Perhaps we need to talk to you more. Do you have enough lettuce?
