Have you read Countdown to Infinite Crisis? in that, there is a scene where Shazam is talking to ted kord. After ted is teleported back to earth, Shazam is talking to someone who asks shazam "Are yo too filled with questions?" i have heard that that mysterious voice is, in fact, oracle. what do you think?

Okay, Aurakles. This just struck me as I was reading - What happens to Shilo during the course of the mini isn't really happeneing, yeah? It's in some kinda Donnie-Darko-esque time loop, his own private dimension (that happens to be very very similar to the mainstream DCU) - he's been missing since the black hole incident.

I think his meeting with Aurakles is even more symbolic than would first appear. Aurakles, being a God, probably can exist across universes and timescales, so I think he's the real deal, or at least a facet of the superdimensional being that Gods are. He meets Shilo and recognizes the nature of his life-trap imprisonment, but also that he can help Aurakles out of his bonds in the *real* DCU. Aurakles uses his God powers to knock Shilo out of the life-trap loop he's stuck in, enabling him to confront the Omega Sanction in a way he'd not been able to before, without "reality" in the way. When he's asking "Wilt thou give thy life that Aurakles might save us all? Wilt thou give thy life for me?", he doesn't mean right here, right now. He's referring to the meeting to come in SS#1, when Shilo *does* give his life to set Aurakles free, giving his life for Aurakles, repaying the debt owed.

Of course, this begs the question of how and why Shilo was revived, and if he knew beforehand that he would be. On one side, he is a New God and so must have some Godly powers to go along with it, although I'm not sure if he'd know that or not. I mean, he had a hole in his brain, he would need some Wolverine-esque healing powers for that one. The other possibility is that Aurakles resurrected him in return for freeing him. Shilo would have placed his faith in (a) God that even making the ultimate sacrifice, the God would come through for him. Which adds even more to the whole 'neon-Christ' vibe the series has going for it. Mister Miracle, how's turning water into wine for ya?

If Shilo's ultimate mission was to release Aurakles, that could explain Metron's involvement. After all, they created him at the dawn of civilisation, they may have a vested interest in what happens to him down the line. And seeing as the New Gods are somewhat predisposed of at present, it makes sense that they would recruit Shilo on the extra-dimensional plane do do some work down in the second dimension for them. And, if you want to go all metatextual, you could say that MM is all about 'saving' a character like Aurackles from comics-limbo, bringing him into the present again (and maybe to play some part in the upcoming New Gods epic?). And, finally, if Aurakles was in JLA #100 then it makes total sense that he would pop up sooner or later in the SS story, as that seems to be a very important tale in the continuity of the series.

Didn't bother me in the slightest that there weren't so many overt ties to the rest of the story. It's a thematic reencapsulation/reexamination of a buncha the other stuff goin' on elsewhere. I had no problem with that. ('N fact, Mister Miracle is my second favorite of the minis, right behind my OTHER favorite seventies Kirby creation.)

Agreed with the Aurakles bit, though.
