Do you think Runaways will be better or worse with Joss Whedon writing it?

Worse. Marvel should really just cancel the title if they can’t keep Vaughan at its helm.

I’m gambling on “worse” right now, because I don’t think Whedon’s ever written anything as good as Runaways, with the possible exception of the Serenity movie. I expect the dialogue and moment-to-moment writing to be very good — Whedon’s got that stuff down cold — but I have concerns about the plotting and long-term direction.

Michael Ryan is a great artist for the book, though, and Whedon’s as good as anybody else I could have picked, so I’m still hopeful.

I like Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men for the most part. His dialogue and character interaction are pretty good, even if his plots are sometimes a little weak. I’m more worried about the art. I think Michael Ryan is an okay artist based on what I’ve seen from him, but I’ve grown very accustomed to Adrian Alphona’s artwork, so that’s going to be my biggest adjustment. Only time will tell what Whedon and Ryan bring to the table on this one…

I don’t think it’ll be as good, but the quality should remain pretty high.

I haven’t read the Runaways yet, but have read
Whedon on Astonishing X-men, Serenity, and Fray.

Liked Whedon’s stuff, but will reserve judgment on
Runaways until I’ve read the earlier issues.

Well, it’s only six issues, right?

I’m a humongous Whedon disciple, and I’m not a big Vaughan fan, so I’m assuming it’ll be better. Then again, I did give up on Astonishing X-Men after a while.

But Joss’ll get me to buy my first issue of Runaways.

Never during Buffy/Angel/Firefly did I ever think, “Hey this guy should write Runaways!” That might be due to the fact Runaways didn’t exist back then, but I digress.

It’s pretty much pitch perfect right now, so there’s really nowhere to go but down.

Well, it can’t get much better. That said, the characters do seem pretty perfect for Whedon. Oh, wait, I mean: What Cayman said.

Worse. Whedon’s comic work has always been weak compared to his screenwriting, and he’s got the unenviable task of following up BKV, who aside from creating the series is also a far more consistently solid writer when it comes to comics.

Then again, I could be biased because there’s precious few X-Men stories I’ve read that I hated more than “Danger.”

I’m betting worse, since this plays right to his tendency to write Buffy characters under different names. Everybody get ready to see the same thing you’ve seen before!

I’m going to say that I expect it to be memorable in its own right. There are going to be a lot of people who will hate it because it is not exacly the same, regardless of the quality just as there are going to be all sorts of fanboys just because it is Whedon. I think the reality is that it will be a well done comic with strong characterization that follows the premise very closely. But it will not be the same.

Worse, but it’ll sell better.

If Whedon brings back the *real* stars of the book, i.e. the original Pride, then I’ll say “better”

I would say worse, much as I hate to nay-say. If he’s at Firefly/Serenity quality, I’ll eat my words. If he’s at every other thing he’s ever written quality, I won’t.

I’m betting worse, since this plays right to his tendency to write Buffy characters under different names. Everybody get ready to see the same thing you’ve seen before!

This is what I’m afraid of as well. However, the man’s a genius with dialogue, so I’m likely to be more forgiving when it comes to plotting and such.

It may not be as good, but I thinkn he’s a damn fine choice to follow up Caughan

or even Vaughan

Well the first 18 issues didn’t have much happen and were decompressed to all hell.
Going by Astonishing X-Men, Whedon should be perfect for it.

And in my opinion: The book blows guys - it really does - intresting concept that was just boring in the execution. Stop being blinded by the fact that it’s an all ages book that stars kids with powers, and wake up to the fact that it’s a bad story by creators showing us everything that is currently being done wrong with the medium.

Oh, sorry. I thought I was enjoying a fun well-told story. I guess I was wrong.
