Yeah. It's the sheer mastery of craft involved . . .nobody else, at least in corporate comics, is coming close to matching it.

"I mean, it’s still a Silver Age pastiche, no matter how well done it is."

Okay, Greg, but it could also be said that it's still very well done, no matter how much of a Silver Age pastiche it is.

And I think that if you look at it that way, you'll understand the massive love for the book.

Quitely's people are an acquired taste, I think; it's the panel layout and the design choices he makes that so often land him on these best-of lists.

But I never am going to get why so many people are so high on All-Star Superman. I mean, it's still a Silver Age pastiche, no matter how well done it is. I am constantly befuddled by the unabashed fanboy love it gets all over the internet; I don't remember this much swooning even over Morrison's JLA, which is essentially the same thing. Take Silver Age tropes and structures and translate them into a modern comics monthly. So essentially you are raising the level of craft involved, but I think this book isn't a patch on the more original work from either Morrison or Quitely. Is it just that everyone is happy to get a Superman book they can feel okay about reading again? Because I honestly don't see anything more here than "Yeah, it's a good Superman book. Nice to have one."

Bill, there are tons of artists that don't make everyone look like pornstars. Granted, the bulk of them probably aren't working on mainstream Marvel or DC books, but still: not making characters look like hootchie mamas and papas shouldn't be any sort of qualifier for who's got the stuff.

I do like Quitely's sense of movement, which is enough to put him in the category of Good Comic Artist. But I'm just not feeling you on his people. They still look like mushpeople to me. Dynamic, exciting mushpeople. But mushpeople nonetheless.

I love you, Cronin. You're a man after me own heart, though I probably would've classified Seven Soldiers as a "megaseries" (I think that was Morrison's term?) so that I could have given Batman: Year 100 the nod for best mini.

I love Paul Pope's art like I love Morrison's words. I'm hoping to get things signed by both of them at NYComic-con (my first!).

Quitely draws terrific people. His anatomy is spot on and he doesn't make everyone look like a porn star. And his storytelling skills and ability to give the sense of movement in a static image make him one of the best comic artists we've got.

Wow, I was so stoked to see the Gregs' and Mark's pics. They highlighted some great books and great creators. I thought Cronin's list of accomplishments in various categories was heartening as well.

Still (though he didn't win on any of these), I don't get the love for Quitely. As rad as some of his detail work is, I don't know if anyone's noticed, but he can't draw people for crap. I loved We3 when he stuck to drawing the animals and the tech, but as soon as scientists and military men took panel, it devolved into some weird sort of drama of the mush people.

Hahahahah.

Some really cool and obscure choices from Mark and the Gregs. But, of course, Cronin comes in with the G-Mozz love. Heh.

"Can’t punish Morrison and Quitely for producing the best ongoing series out there, just because a bunch of other people agree with me."

Cronin you're awesome.

I'd be hardpressed to find a better ongoing book then ASS.

Good to see some Godland love too. That book needs to be read by anyone who calls themselves a comic fan.
