Man, these are tough! I sent in my entry, and most of them I only had a vague guess on, but I was able to come up with better guesses using Wikipedia, GCD, and Google. Gotta love the internets! And there were a couple that I was able to check comics in my collection for, including one that I was going to guess at, but then got an idea and went and looked it up, and I was right! Awesome! I doubt I'll win, but it was lots of fun! Thanks, Greg, and don't listen to these naysayers!

Ah now I see what's happened. You only get the "read the rest" text if you go in from the front page. I go directly to the page via the RSS feed so I just had the whole post slapped out in front of me with nothing to click.

Maybe this is the answer to the chdb's point...

Maybe next time you do a competition like this you should either give mainstream prizes but have indie panels to identify or you should have indie prizes and mainstream panels. That way hopefully you're introducing people to things they might not otherwise have read.

And yeah - I probably won't win, but the panels aren't nearly as hard as I thought they'd be

I don't really get why everyone thinks it's so insanely hard! I'm only a student, with a few years of being into comics, which I would guess is a considerably lower age than most of the readers here, and I was pretty happy with how I did. I doubt I'll win anything, but I knew a fair number of them, I thought, and it was a lot of fun anyways.

Of 30 panels, I'd guess that 24 are from "mainstream" comics. This roughly parallels my moderately-ranging comics reading experience of over 40 years.

Though I claim some exposure to about 75% of the panels, I could only estimate to be in the lower 40% of points earned.

In other words, this contest is, um, not easy.

I will enter, after some verification of what I think I know.

I would be very interested in a follow-up, identifying the panels, and giving some indication of why that panel was selected. That would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Greg, I don't want to sound snarky (as chdb kinda does), but then again, I agree with his (her?) overall point. I've no idea how well I would do in this contest overall â€” I'd rank somewhere in the middle, I suppose â€” but I am pretty damn sure I'd never win, place or show. To earn your prizes, one really must have an encyclopedic knowledge of comics. It's your contest and your call, of course, and it's all well and good if you wish to reward those folks with more comics ... but I wonder if it might not make more sense to try to get these prizes into the hands of less knowledgable readers, to expose them to stuff they wouldn't otherwise pick up. A contest that demands this much overall knowledge of characters, storylines and art styles is great, but even better if the prize were, oh I don't know, signed artwork or a copy of a comic script or some more insider-y trophy. (Not that you have any of those lying around. I can appreciate you just working with what you've got. I'm just sayin'.) Anyway, rock on, all you comics badasses!

Wow - I'm amazed how well I did there my issue numbers are mostly guesses, but I think I had good guesses for the rest (and a few I actually knew).

Number 4 is annoying me though. I'm sure I should know it - and I'm sure I should be able to guess the artist, but I'm coming up completely blank on it.

There is no way I could hope to win this, but I have #15 in my childhood collection. The cover was so wacky/stupid.
