Oh, sweet vindication. All my life, people have told me I was wasting my time with comics. Well, comics may not have helped me meet women or get a better job, but it has helped me win more comics! Woo!

This was a lot of fun. It was interesting to see how many I thought I recognized (dang, that wasn't Rogers/Austin?) and to see some books I never knew existed (the Thomases and Guice on DOCTOR STRANGE? Weird!). I really wanted to find out what #24 was, and as things turned out, it was a book I was already looking for.

And Greg, for what it's worth, that FLASH arc was Waid's first bad story in the series and it never recovered from that point. The combination of the Speed Force junk and Linda Park with an Uzi make that a definite "jump the shark" moment.

Okay I'm officially an idiot. I thought panel 23 was the My Flesh is Cool one. Actually I remember looking in the text for panel 27, and misreading it. I thought she said "Even Knox can take over other people" rather than "Evan Knox can take over other people" so I didn't have quite enough for a Google search. And if I hadn't misread it I'd have beaten that darn Matt Brady!

Dan - one of the reasons I chose that panel is BECAUSE she mentions Evan Knox. It's there, I swear! I had to leave some clues!!!!

I was one of the ones who got My Flesh Is Cool, but I haven’t read it; I Googled the name Evan Knox and found a review.

But it doesn't say "Evan Knox" in that picture. I'd probably have got it the same way if I'd seen the name there. That was how I got the Middleman one.

I've got I am Legion, and it even occurred to me, but for some reason I thought it looked more like a potential Captain America page.

Hah, take that DanCJ! Beat you by one point! I was one of the ones who got My Flesh Is Cool, but I haven't read it; I Googled the name Evan Knox and found a review. Lucky! I actually own 1963 (except for Horus, Lord of Light, dammit!), but didn't get that one. I took a wild guess and said Steve Ditko on Dr. Strange, but I was pretty sure that was wrong. And I also got I Am Legion, which I was pretty proud of. I recognized Cassaday's work, and was going to guess a random issue of Planetary, but then I thought of Legion, so I pulled it out of my collection and found the panel. Sweet!

Fun contest, Greg! I did pretty bad, like I was expecting, but it's still lots of fun to look up all this stuff. Do it again soon!

Woo! I won!! I never read 1963 so that's probably why I had no clue about it. I actually own the LOTDK issue but I couldn't recognize the art so it was pointless going searching for it...would've been nice...293 out of 300...
And thanks for the blog plug! Maybe this'll motivate me to update the damned thing.

Sorry, stealthwise. It's been out for seven years, so I just assumed everyone who was going to read has read it already. There's a ton of other cool stuff and shocking stuff in it, so you should still enjoy it.

Hmm... my score was a bit crap then. Ah well I could probably have made it to ninth position (ie: 1 or 2 more points) if I'd actually gone looking at my collection

Hmmm ... I may have to track down those later issues of The Shadow ...

Johnny B - I wasn't bashing Mahnke's art in Major Bummer. It's just that he has gotten a lot better, even though the art on that book was good.

Here are the standings:

1. Zeb Aslam, 283
2. Brice Dare, 227
3. Yiding Lu, 217
4. Ian Astheimer, 201
5. Bill Reed, 199
6. Peter Garcia Sanchez, 198
7. Russell Paulette, 174
8. Timothy Callahan, 167
9. Matt Brady, 129
10. Dan Condon-Jones, 128
11. Blair Corbett, 113
12. David Germano, 93
13. Bill Florio, 68

There you have it!

Here's a second on DanCJ's Shadow evaluation. The first 4 or 5 issues were scripted kinda tentatively, but then Baker came along and Helfer shifted into another gear altogether. If you don't read any of the others, at least get #'s 8-13, the "Seven Deadly Finns" storyline. It's effing brilliant. Trust me.

And Mahnke's interiors were pretty damn good on Major Bummer- that wasn't one of the best covers in the series by far.

I guess I can feel good for getting the John McCrea LoTDK and Dr Midnite which you had down as hard despite doing pretty crap. Seeing as there were only 13 entries, any chance of a complete listing. I'd be interested in seeing how badly/well I did. It's very annoying that I own some of those ones I didn't get :(

I never had a chance with My Flesh is Cool - after being burned by the mediocre Mortal Souls there was no way I was getting that. I recognised that Avatar style though and guessed one of the Strange/Stranger Kisses/Killings books at random.

The Shadow #1 by Andy Helfer and Bill Sienkiewicz (August 1987). I bought the first four issues only because Sienkiewicz was drawing it. They’re not that great. Nice art, though.

You're seriously missing out there! The Bill Seinkeiwicz storyline is 6 issues and it's a bit tricky to follow, but after that Kyle Baker takes over on the art in a very different, but still great style and Hefler's writing just gets better and better. What you've got there is four of the lesser issues of an all time classic run! (BTW - this is in no way Seinkeiwicz's fault. I think it just took a while for Andy Hefler to get comfortable)

I lost, like I said I would. But! I guessed a few issues right at random, like Fallen Angel and El Cazador, but I was completely off on a few. Oh well. It was fun and difficult.

I was one of the two people who got 24. It was the easiest for me. First one I recognized. But I'm weird, and I adored that series. And it took me forever to remember Steed and Mrs. Peel, but I got it. Woot.

That last one so didn't look like Jackson Guice. And I can't believe that wasn't an Englehart/Rogers! I should be able to get Simonson art from a mile away. Oh well. I am a sad fanda. Didn't even know Longshot had a mini.
