" . . . although Jen’s joke about a part of Logan’s anatomy doesn’t really work, mainly because there wouldn’t be any adamantium there, Jen! Yes, I think too much."

It was a joke, borne of the ribald flirting. Of course it's not literal. You've never flirted...?

Remember, I used quotes, too. ;)

I used the quotes because I, too, am unsure if he was literally told to do it, or whether he did it because he knew it would help his sales.

I wasn't sure how much he was "forced," Brian. I just read it as him making fun of his own decisions, even though I know it's part of the big crossover event. Yes, it's better than being canceled, certainly. I wonder how much Marvel told him to write a She-Hulk, Agent of SHIELD story and how much was Slott thinking he could fit She-Hulk into the current stories of Civil War and the Hulk thing.

I didn't like the part in She-Hulk where Slott made fun of the recent issues. I get that it must be annoying to be sorta "forced" to stop writing the She-Hulk as lawyer stories, but it is a lot better than being cancelled, right?

If an immortal like Hercules consistently made outdated references ("You're thicker than William Howard Taft's mustache"), it might not be great but an outdated reference wouldn't seem so lame.

If Hercules had said, "Where's the beef?" I would run out and buy three issues.

Re: Spirit

The stories are good (but I agree, they don't feel as compelling as Fell's done-in-ones) but the art blows me away. In the most recent issue, almost every flashback page would make a fantastic poster. The pencils, the inks, the colors: all out of this world. From an artistic standpoint, I can't think of a better book being published right now.

"I know it’s leading into other stuff, much like Infinite Crisis, but at least that horrible piece of excrement ended with two Supermans beating the living shit out of each other. It sucked, but it sucked it a grand, idiotic way."

As Bart Simpson would say: It's funny because it's true. In fact, I laughed out loud, here at the internet cafe. CW#7 was just dull, except for that Lloyd Bentsen reference, which also made me laugh out loud (in the comic shop yesterday), but that time, not in a good way. Laughing AT, not laughing WITH.

Ahhh ... anyway ... Catwoman rocks, Greg. So glad you're a booster. Because (to my surprise, as I never really thought I'd be a Catwoman collector) it has become my fave monthly book since the whole OYL thing. Can't wait to find out what the deal really is with that snow globe.

I only said it LOOKS as if he drew it freehand, Michael. He could have traced it, of course, but it's far more dynamic than his usual She-Hulk covers.

Land's cover for "Legion of Monsters: Werewolf by Night," which also shipped this week, looks very cool as well. Doesn't look really like a photo-reference job to me.

His art inside the book is pretty good, though the main female character is inconsistant in his usual way. The Werewolf looks cool, however. The comic itself is enjoyable if you like the old Marvel Horror characters from the 70s.

The She-Hulk cover is spoofing Wolverine 181, so I doubt Horn drew it entirely freehand.

I've been enjoying Omega Men - the story isn't anything spectacular, and the first issue was a bit convoluted, but it's a fun outer space story with great art - reminds me a bit of Howard Chaykin, Walt Simonson, and Doug Mahnke's Frankenstein.

I can't fathom not reading Local in single form - it works so perfectly that way, even if there is an overall theme to the book. Of course, I'm just happy an issue finally came out - I was beginning to fear it had fallen into Oni's Pit of Vanished Books.

Ken - whoops, I actually liked the first issue of Omega Men. I always read the first issues to see if I want to continue with the mini-series. It wasn't great, but it was intriguing enough. And the art is really cool. We'll see if it lets me down when it's all said and done!

That would have been far too cool, Richard.

The only one I care to comment on is Omega Men, because I think you should be warned, Greg: the first issue of this was seriously not good. Anderson Gabrych is just a lousy writer.

Oh, Okay, I'll comment on the Spirit too: I more or less agree with your assessment. I haven't found myself blown away by any of the stories yet. I don't know what's missing, but it's something.

I have no intention of buying or reading Civil War #7, but my guess for Hercules' line is:

Hercules: "Mark Millar, I knew Stan Lee. You sir are no Stan Lee"
