Oooh, now Delillo taking on the Punisher - that would be something.

"You stand at the kitchen sink, gazing out at the immense, teeming sky and the bending willows, a tea kettle softly whistling...when, like a sensory memory of youthful abandon, the Punisher comes in and stomps your ass into the tile."

Bill, if you didn't buy the first 3 issues of PWJ, you didn't miss much. The first one was okay, but the next 2 were just awful. #3 had me seriously considering dropping the series, but #4 was enough to make me stick it another month. As is, I'll probably drop the series as soon as he puts on the Captain America costume.

You should pick up Punisher War Journal #4 though, Greg; Frank barely makes an appearance. It's mostly a hilarious character study on the lamer sided of villainy, and one of my favorite single issues so far this year. It's as good as Nextwave #12 and Marvel Adventures Avengers #9! Now that's quality.

Plus, you know, it's Fraction on top of his game, so it must be good. I haven't followed PWJ, but this issue was too cool not to buy.

Yeah, nice one Zuras...

I'm hoping we'll be seeing A LOT more of the Eternals after this (altho' I haven't read #7 yet).

Punisher is good as an antagonist not a protagonist. He should be Spidermans and Daredevils Magneto - the guy they think is crazy and wrong, but you can sort of see where he's coming from. In that role he works great; on his own - well not as much (though I don't hate him as much as you seem to).

David - Fred van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey are collaborating on other stuff following the last issue, so there will still be fun comics from them! But yeah, it's a shame that such a great comic is ending.

FGJ - I KNOW I'm not supposed to like Frank Castle, and I don't. However, it goes deeper than that - I just loathe the character as a concept, and think that it's a shame that he has become so popular. Maybe someday I will succumb to the peer pressure about Ennis' Punisher and pick up a trade. For now, I stand resolute!

Good to know, Dizzy - thanks!

For my money Archaia are consistently providing good stuff with everything they print - The Killer, Okko, Secret History... I haven't read Mouse Guard but will try the collected edition when it comnes out.

P.S. Can't wait to use the term "sucks mighty moose dick" in conversation!

It’s an old series (from 2005), so I hope that Kordey had plenty of time to get it done, because his art is a very good selling point.

Kordey is a really fast artist (his art suffered on New X-Men because his deadlines were insane: ten days with also two other monthly books to worry about.), I don't know how much time he got to get it done, but in case of Secret History all seven books have already been drawn and published within a very short timespan. Over here they came out like this: 2 in September 2006, 2 in November and 3 in February (
and the same creative team also does a series called Empire and that first issue was published over here in February as well). As all the issues were oversized hard-covers at about TPB price (though with a discount if you bought 2 issues at the same time), it was a bit too much for me to buy it all at once. I've got 2 issues by now and plan to buy the rest later.

Greg, Greg, Greg, your not supposed to like Frank Castle in Ennis' MAX series, he's a scary crazy loon, you fear him.
However, everyone else in the story is twice as bad.

I find the book to be one of the best Marvel has ever published - I'm scared to turn the page to see what horrors the villains get up to, and can't wait for them to be killed off, and yet I'm also scared to see how they get done in, as it has to be in a way that makes you feel that they have paid for their sins.

It's just an amazing read - your never comfortable, always on edge, and both in a rush to, yet hesitating to, turn the page and see what happens next.

I personally feel that Ennis has become a true master of the art in the last few years*. Punisher MAX and War Stories have just been amazing.

* I know Preacher fans will object to that, but remember a lot of the stuff he also did at that time, and just after - The Darkness, Bloody Mary, Shadow Man, Punisher (MU) - he was a bit hit and miss, where these days, he just seems hit after hit.

7 Brothers is an interesting case for me, as it was certainly frustrating to read in monthly installments, but on the whole, I really ended up enjoying the series. The first issue I thought did a really great job of setting the stage for the series, but it didn't feel like it went much of anywhere after that until the 4th issue, while the 2nd and 3rd issues felt like dead space wasted on exposition.

Still, the final issue was probably the most entertaining comic I read this week, especially the introduction of the Dragon, which had me laughing out loud. It's a pity this series isn't getting more exposure, as it's certainly better than anything else Woo has been involved with since Face/Off.

I really don't get why everyone is bashing Ramos so much. His art is always fairly exaggerated and cartoon-like. I didn't think anything he did in this week's X-Men was anything out of the norm for him. That said, I actually like his art and would like to see more of it. I actually prefer him to Bachalo, who can be totally incoherent at times with his art.

With Bachalo, there can be way too much black space and over use of inking and too much going on in a scene to the point where sometimes I don't know who the character is. Ramos' art is at least clear, even if some of the features of characters are exaggerated; that's just part of his style. Every artist brings their own style to a book.

God help me, I did some research and discovered that the original 1960's version of Linda Carter was a brunette.

See, I'm the opposite: I totally dig Dr. Strange but I'm not really a Vaughan fan. I picked the series up because the preview pages looked fun and because Marcos Martin was drawing Dr. Strange in the vein of Steve Ditko! And it is good. Can't wait to read the last ish.

If it's the same Night Nurse, her name should be Linda Carter. But then, there were a couple Night Nurses, I think. And none of them were brunette. Hmm.
