I've been following his work since his start at Marvel.
He was an inker on Powerman and Iron Fist.

There is so much stuff he did that was good.

At Marvel he did a DOCTOR STRANGE AND DOCTOR DOOM hardcover graphic novel that was very nice. There was also the 4 issues of adaptations of few of Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd And Gray Mouser stories.

I also liked the first few issues of Corum at First. First published Moorcock's Hawkmoon and Elric, but Corum had the best art while Mignola was doing it.

COSMIC ODYSSEY made me realize that Mignola is among the very few artist who can do Kirby's creation justice (along with Bruce Timm, Walter Simonson, Darwyn Cooke, John Byrne, John Romita Jr.). I would love for him to do a DEMON mini series or another New Gods project.

GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT, LEGEND OF THE DARK KNIGHT # 54 (which was the first thing Mignola wrote by himself I think), and BATMAN/HELLBOY/STARMAN were some of the best Batman special projects of the 90's.

HELLBOY is a cool, fun and spooky series.
I just wish Mignola could do all the art.

I think there's a difference between those who were fans of the comics before they saw the film and those who weren't. I had never read the comics before and I really liked the film. I liked the characters; I liked the feel; I liked the story. To me, it was all good.

"As much as I love Hellboy, I think the world would be a better place if we got more Amazing Screw-On Head in one form or another someday. I loved the animated series pilot, but that one shot is like a 32 pages of everything I love about comics. "

It was comic book heroin.

The portraits at the end had me in tears.

There's a cool Aliens story called Salvation by Mignola.

Well worth checking out - it's set on a jungle planet and is just great.

"The movie wasn’t tbe best one ever made, but I’d hardly say it was terrible. Parts of it were really different and new, it was a lot of fun and it was certainly watchable."

Man was it a bad film.
I didn't really think you could go wrong with a Hellboy movie, at least for me, I like him, but aren't overly attached to any part of his mythos or character, so I figured I'd be cool with any kind of take - and yet I resented every minute I spent watching that film.
Maybe if I was REALLY high I could get into it, but straight....
(WTF was with the nazi dude with the swords? He looked like he'd wandered in from a Troma production).

"When has Hellboy ever really been about story? There have been some good ones, but its essentially about Hellboy hitting things, and the movie succeded with that."

You're moving the goalposts. Bill's not talking about whether the movie was an accurate translation of the comics. He's saying he found the movie lacking, as a movie.

My first exposure to Mignola was through Cosmic Odyssey and his Wolverine GN, both of which I still love to this day. Mignola rocks.

Mike Mignola's work is fantastic! But when did he draw the Powerpuff Girls?

By the way, I have to disagree... the Hellboy movie was great.

Oh Gods, we do need more Screw-On Head. The one-shot was very fun; the cartoon was even better, astonishingly, and became moving Mignola art. Awesome.

I know he's now famous for Hellboy, but I always loved his occasional work on Superman in the late 80s. The World of Krypton miniseries and the "Return to Krypton" issue of Superman were awesome-- indeed I now look at his work on the character as a high-watermark for Superman generally.

It was utterly dreadful except for one line, from the zombie dude: "If I had legs, I'd kick your ass." I laughed for five minutes with that one. The rest suffered from stiff acting and wretched dialogue. Well, the prosthetics and makeup and creature-making were good, but I'm concerned about story.

I own half of that Rocket Raccoon mini series. It's awful. But fun.

Marvel's bringing RR back in the upcoming "Annihilation" thing.

When I first encountered Mike’s art, I didn’t like it. It really wasn’t my thing. But I grew to appreciate it, and then, finally, I understood. It’s great.

I hated his art at first - but this was back when he did a story in some anniversary issue of John Byrne's Superman run (or there abouts). I saw a recent scan of that work and it really wasn't a patch on what he does these days.

I started to warm to him on the Death in the Family covers and Cosmic Odyssey, but it was his adaptation of the Bram Stoker's Dracula film that made me realise the guy's genius.

I'm still not big on his writing, but his art these days is fantastic! (still not fond of that older work though)

Craig...it's Min-Yo-La

Boy-howdy...
This Mike Week keeps getting better and better.

There can even be a tie-in with Mike Week...well...another tie-in...
Mike Esposito
Inker extraordinaire on the classic All-New Wonder Woman featuring that superfly pimp, I-Ching.
Yeah, baby...

Gee...
Now that I think of it, you could play "6 Degrees Of I-Ching".
Kevin Bacon, eat your heart out.

Yes, Hellboy's a great character, and Mignola's a master of dark, moody atmospheric images. But, it should be noted, a lot of the time it looks like he's using fog and shadows to avoid drawing ankles and feet. YOu know, kinda the way Liefeld uses rubble. Just sayin', is all.

Yes, Hellboy’s a great character, and Mignola’s a master of dark, moody atmospheric images. But, it should be noted, a lot of the time it looks like he’s using fog and shadows to avoid drawing ankles and feet. YOu know, kinda the way Liefeld uses rubble. Just sayin’, is all.

Mignola's work is godly.

I'd love to see another Batman series from him. His Batman B&W statue is one of the coolest I've ever seen
