I didn't even realize this was from Image until the end. From the art and (what-I'll-play-along-and-call-a) story, I'd think this was from a half-a-porn company like Avatar or...

...um...or other such companies who I've never heard of. No, never.

I didn't mean to imply that they aren't good now. Most of the stuff doesn't appeal to me, but I do really like The Walking Dead and Dynamo 5 was fairly good. It's definitely a whole different company now and for the better.

"As for the comic, I think this is the reason I never really picked up any Image comics. Just terrible."

Image has come a long way from dreck like this. Jack Staff, Rocketo, Walking Dead, Invincible, Godland, Savage Dragon, Hawaiin Dick, Amazing Joy Buzzards, Powers (before it went to Icon), Phonogram, Mage, Noble Causes and many more have definately redeemed Image. Image's best books are worth picking up.

Heck Mike Allered and Kyle Baker are now coming to Image.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who remembers Don't Pay the Ferryman. It wasn't that big of a hit, but I always loved the song. They certainly don't make songs like that anymore.

Man, it WAS an improvement! Brigade (the whole limited series) is the very worst comic book I've ever seen, bar none. This one shows quite an improvement, at least in the art (Brigade seemed to be drawn by a very bad Liefeld imitator. Yes, Rob Liefeld kicked his ass!).

Someone needs to review the original Brigade limited series. It's an Ed Wood movie in comics form! It's so bad it's good!

Best,
Hunter (Pedro Bouça)

My one and only run-in with the wonder that is Marat Mychaels was BRIGADE #1, back in '92. At the time, I dismissed him as a frickin' horrible artist who had found work by virtue of his ability to weakly ape Rob Liefeld.

How in the world was he still working as a comics professional eight years later without the slightest bit of improvement? I get very tired of people posting complaints about comics and creators, but by all that's holy, this is crap on an epic scale. Crap-covered crap with a creamy crap filling.

How has Brian Pulido not snatched him up yet?

Yeah, I know, Dan. It's just another example of the badness of this book - bad editing!

That shot of Jaclyn crawling out of the river has some terrible, terrible anatomy. Her breasts look like they're growing out of her shoulders. And what's with her boob in the shot of her flying foot-first toward the reader? It looks like a creature that has latched onto her body. Hmmmm, I seem to be obsessed with breasts. What can I say? I'm male.

It’s not even that much fun to make fun of it, because consider: someone (Jim Valentino, presumably) thought enough of this or thought it would make enough money to actually publish it.

Sadder still: considering this is the second volume, the first probably did make enough money to warrant publishing the further adventures of Jaclyn and her ever-expanding bust.

... Oy. I had no idea Image was doing this kind of comic as late as 2000. It's like someone who had Dante explained to him while he was watching Buffy, while high, decided to make a comic.

You should know that this week's entry made my wife Julie laugh so hard she worried about popping one of her surgical stitches.

And when she got to the part where you thought about saying Just kill her! she said, "Yeah, all he'd need is a big pin and he could pop her like a balloon!"
