Here's the next promotional quote from CSBG that will end up on the back cover of a comic:

"I’m slurping Peter Milligan."

McCarthy is a master. I'm just gutted that that recent book (Swimini Purpose) of his only exists in an overpriced limited edition hardcover.

It's true, I have little-to-no idea what's going on in Rogan Gosh. It makes most of Grant Morrison's work look like "See Spot Run." But it looks awesome. And I rather like the art in Skin - I think it suits the subject matter.

Honestly, I think that if Brendan McCarthy had been interested in being a full-time comic book artist, he could be up there with Frank Quitely. He can be pretty incredible.

Bad Company is good, stupid fun. Generic war story spiced up with some satire and sf, complete with a crazy guy who thinks he's fighting the Germans. It's the sort of thing I wish Marvel & DC would let him do on superhero books - just acknowledge the absurdity of it all and have some fun without taking it too seriously.

I'd recommend anybody who hasn't read it to seek out Bad Company. The first two series are currently collected in a TPB. A recent 2000AD Extreme Edition also collects The Dead: one of Milligan's first full series and a real beauty.

Next on the Milligan hitlist? Probably Skreemer, a really fantastic book that, like the rest of Milligan’s catalogue, remains criminally underappreciated.

Oooh - Good call!!

Or you could track down the Brendan McCarthy teamups in Rogan Gosh and Skin, though they’re a bit harder to find. (Worth it, though)

Hmm... not so sure about those. Rogan Gosh looks fantastic but god knows what's going on in it. Definitely for people who understand the final volume of The Invisibles and 7 Solders #1.

Skin isn't a bad story, but the art in it is really ugly. I blame the artistic partner McCarthy worked with on that book.

Skreemer though... brilliant!

Metropol was orinigally suppused to be three volumes.
Volume one has 12 issues, with a mignola back-up (!).
Volume two has 3 issues.
Volume three was never completed, but Faith is connected loosely. As are his first works, Transit and Eddy Current. GET EDDY CURRENT IF YOU CAN! BRILLIANT HILARIOUS SATIRE of superheroes!

My hat is off to Greg Burgas, who not only tackles difficult comics with unique precision and deadly aim, but for reviewing so much Milligan as well. He's truly one of comicdom's greatest, and most underappreciated, authors. I highly recommend skreemer, rogan gosh, skin, and, for true milligan insanity, STRANGE DAYS (with beautiful sequential art by brendan mccarthy and bret ewins).

I’ve never found a copy of Plastic Forks; anyone know if it was ever reprinted?

There was a hardcover published by someone when the series wrapped, but good luck finding it. Plastic Forks is one of Ted's best. I anxiously await something new from McKeever. Definitely one of my top five artists. Great post!

I read the first two issues of this ages ago, and I've been meaning to read the whole thing. Time to step up the eBay searching.

McKeever's a great artist, but I find he's a bit like Chris Bachalo: Sometimes he veers too far into weird & quirky, and abandons things like "storytelling" and "clarity". When he treads the line, though - as I think he did on Extremist - he's pretty awesome.

Next on the Milligan hitlist? Probably Skreemer, a really fantastic book that, like the rest of Milligan's catalogue, remains criminally underappreciated. At least it's collected. Or you could track down the Brendan McCarthy teamups in Rogan Gosh and Skin, though they're a bit harder to find. (Worth it, though)

I have the 1st 2 Metropol volumes (one of which got water damaged, unfortunately), but I don't recall ever seeing volume 3.

There was a time when I would buy any Ted McKeever comic, regardless of concept. Thank you for pointing out a McKeever book I never knew existed! I'll have to track this down.

Industrial Gothic remains one of my favorite comics. Faith, which may have been a sequel to Metropol, was absorbing, as well. I've never found a copy of Plastic Forks; anyone know if it was ever reprinted?

Anybody know what McKeever is up to now? The last book of his I read was the Wonder Woman Elseworlds (Blue Amazon?) that went along with Superman: Metropolis & Batman: Nosferatu. It wasn't very good, but I'm always interested in new Ted McKeever.

I remember this series. I wasn't a Peter Milligan fan but usually enjoyed Ted McKeever's artwork.

There was a series that he did about the "end of the world," I believe it was called Metropol and Metropol A.D.

This was supposed to be a trilogy, does anyone know if McKeever ever finish this one?

I love Enigma, but this just never did it for me. I found the preposterous fetish subculture thing too distancing (yes, yes, Imaginary gay lovers coming to life and giving lizards the power of speech, I know.)

You might find this hard to believe, but the notion of The Extremist as a "superhero" never occurred to me. I might dig it out for another try. What's next? Egypt? Or will you be moving directly on to Face?
