I love that line, and the entire episode. It's also notable for being a Justice League story where the League basically wins only because Batman's a really smart, perceptive guy... who happens to be filthy rich.

I really liked the way (in the Strazewski/Parobeck JSA) Wildcat and the Atom made fun of the Ultra-Humanite in very uncouth, un-PC, but in-character ways about how he should've stayed a girl (and it works, too!)

That Strazewski/Parobeck Justice Society series was great--I had stopped reading comics briefly when that came out--it got me back in.

The Ultra Humanite was one of the best ape characters in comics--

I did remember another--but he was more cartoon than comics--

Read 'The Golden Age'. You will be convinced that (sacreligious and blasphemous as it might seem) the ape thing isn't necessary. Damn, I want to go right back and re-read 'The Golden Age' right now. (But I'm reading eight volumes of 'The Essential Spider-Man', which is also great.)

I don't think I've ever actually read an Ultra-Humanite story, but I did love the character on Justice League/Justice League Unlimited. I had no idea until now that he had such a convoluted backstory. After read this, though I'm fairly certain he should just stick to being a giant albino ape with a massive head.

The only thing better than an albino gorilla is, of course, a gorilla that is some bizarre color gorillas shouldnâ€™t be.

Which confirms my suspicion that Grape Ape is the greatest simian of all. A small clarification on your article: The Ultra Humanite mutated an ape so he could fit his brain into its skull: thus it's a Giant Mutant Albino Gorilla.

John Byrne did a nice job with Ultra-H in the Generations miniseries too, taking advantage of his and Lex's similarities.

Ultra-H is easily my favorite Golden Age villain and is in my top five all time villains. A great, horribly under-used character.
