[...] But here’s another fact about straight, white me.. I’ve recently enjoyed the duck out of comics about growing up in Malaysia, the Ivory Coast, or Japan. And my all time favorite comics feature Spider-man, an elementary school-girl from the trailer park, a mostly invisible living cartoon devil cat who may or may not be the reincarnated Judas Iscariot, and Tales of the Beanworld… Which is, surprisingly, exactly what it sounds like.
Matt Brady - Tell me what you think of Shadowland. (Or put it on your blog, whatever.) I liked the format of it a lot more than I did Alias... the art was bigger, and the design was better.

But on the writing side there were some plot elements that didn't work for me.

Kim Deitch - Wow! Hey! It's Kim Deitch.

Huh. So you were usin' your own life, basically, as the "frame" for the fictional story?

Neat trick. :) Threw me for a loop though.

Has it been done before?

(Anyone know?)

Mark. Thanks for the encouraging review. I enjoyed reading it. I think what the book comes down to is an attempt by me to entertain people using a lot of stuff that really turns me on but that a lot of folks haven't picked up on yet. In order to use these things in an entertaining manner one has to create a frame of reference to make it all more familiar and less alienating. Then I have a clearer field on which to attempt to try and show the readers a good time with some stuff they may not have seen before. Kim

Damn, this looks incredible. Between this and Shadowland, I have a lot of Deitch to catch up on. Excellent review, MA!

Midgetvillians

My favorite new word. Mostly because I imagine it being a one-word phrase for describing evil midgets.

Very interesting review, Mark Andrew. It seems like Deitch has set out to do something complex, difficult, and open to interpretation, which are three of my favorite qualities in a book. I think I'll check this out for myself.

Cronin - Thank you. :)

The Mutt - Ah crap. Did I typo? I tried to fact check and spell stuff right and format good and not move sentences around and forget what I was doing and end up with half-remnants of sentences in the middle of other sentences this time.

But I'm really bad at editing. So what'd I miss?

Whoa. I stumbled onto a gold mine here. Lots of good recommendations.

Speaking of comics, remember the old SuperFriends cartoons during the '70's? Well, imagine if they were turned into the current U.S. Political scene and done in the same way! You end up with The Challenge Of The Super-Duper Friends!

Karl Rove as the Joker is just wrong, wrong, wrong.
