A Busy Friday for Spidey

Box Office Guru reported that Spider-Man 3 took in $59 million on its opening night (counting a sprinkling of Thursday sales, too). Don’t get me wrong, I understand that the whole blockbuster film culture is out of whack, where films basically HAVE to make a crapload of money their opening weekend or else they are considered “failures,” and that there is a heavy cultural push to be part of the “event” and see the film on its opening weekend, so a lot of these numbers are pretty silly, but still….$59 million in one day?

That’s a whole lot of moolah.

Well, it is an awesome movie. Seeing it for the 4th time tomorrow!

Jeeeeee-sus.

If I was the head of Columbia, I would be following Sam Raimi around and cradling his nuts in a warm spoon.

Rohan:

The only problem with seeing a movie in the theatres for more than once, is that you won’t have any money in which to buy your comics.

But, go and enjoy. ;-)

Ha! That’s true, Tom, but the first and second screenings were free media screenings. And really, the highest praise you can give a movie you see twice for free is to pay to see it again.

I saw it last night and enjoyed myself very much.

I was sad that there was no Lizard, though.

I was sad that there was no Lizard, though.

Juggling three foes and still have a coherent story just wasn’t impressive enough?

That was being said tongue-in-cheek, by the way.
