Just wanted to say thanks for the kind words about my story. You always wonder when you are doing these things if anyone is going to understand what you are trying to say in your story-telling, so it means a lot that you "got it".

I think I've got all (or nearly all) of Merlin's stuff in the original Minicomics, but I'll be buying a copy of Last Sane Cowboy when I manage to drag myself near a comic shop. The guy's a bloody hero, and if they like it, probably should go and see the work on his site: e-merl.com

All manner of great stuff.

(Oh - Greg: He actually generates the art with computer, using posing models, then post-processing them to create the distinctive look.)

Haha. Actually, I only browse these type of posts in order to find out what's good. I'd rather not have the story spoiled for me in any way. I look at the last couple lines of your review to find out whether you like something. Then I skip to the comments to see if anyone agrees with you (we need Rotten Tomatoes for graphic novels). Then I go to my library's website and put Rocketo on hold

I read and enjoyed Elk's Run using the same process. So thanks Greg and various commenters for helping me to select interesting stuff to read.

Bill, the first issue is quite expository (even though I liked it), but it gets better. I'm not sure how Espinosa could have set the scene better, because there's a lot of information to impart, but he does pull back in the later issues. That's why it's good to read these in trade format - even if you're a bit bored by the first chapter, you don't have to wait for the next issue for the action!

The Last Sane Cowboy and the Salon look great.

I remember buying the first issue of Rocketo, and, aside from the lovely art, it was wayyyyy too boring for me. Does the writing get better, or is it still mostly expository captions?

Rocketo is one of the greatest comic books currently published, a real (and, sadly, relatively unknown) gem!
