did anyone say X-Men 200 for the cover game. It has EVERY x-man. Other than that I think we got all the uncanny covers (I keep a list).

I have to agree with Ye Olde Iowa that Romita's female characters are vastly more appealing than Ditko's. Those panels of Liz Allen and Betty Brant are really unattractive, like bizarre caricatures. In fact, they are kind of reminiscent of the truly ugly females in the Betty and Veronica digest a few stories up. That gorgeous Romita image of Mary Jane is a serious palate-cleanser.

I loved the running MJ gag when I was re-reading the old Spidey comics. I remember hearing somewhere that they showed the same scenes in flashback from Mary Jane's perspective, and she was avoiding him the same way he was avoiding her, and for the same reasons--they both thought that the person their aunt picked for them was probably someone who couldn't get a date any other way. Anyone know where that was, if it really happened?

Each cover features heroes who were members of the Conglomerate: Gypsy, Jesse Quick and Booster Gold (who founded the Conglomerate).

Ah that was Gypsy? I didn't have a clue who that was - and the costume bears no resemblance to the Gypsy costume I remember.

Was Jesse Quick in The Conglomerate? I don't remember that.

I want to say Ms. Marvel, but only after Simonson took over the book (and speaking of, there's a fine example of someone taking the tools he was given--She-Thing and regular human Ben Grimm--and running with it for awhile instead of immediately resetting things the way he wanted them).

Luke Cage was the best fill in FF-er! He brought a every-man perspective to a title that was full of fantasy and cosmic level threats. Without te Ting, you need someone like that on the team!

by the way, those may be considered "Uncanny" X-Men #'s 123 and 114, although it wasn't officially called that until ish 142.

I want to include #138 but for the life of me I can't make out Banshee on any of those pink reprint covers in the background except as a head in the corner box. Which begs the question, does a corner-box-head count if it's somewhere else on the cover besides a corner box? U decide!

While I have a soft spot for Luke Cage, I think She-Hulk was definitely the most significant non-core member of the FF.

Also X-Men #114 (they're all ghost images).

It's interesting to note how often Wolverine or Banshee is left off the cover. You could tell Cockrum really preferred his own creations (which makes sense), especially Colossus, judging from how often he's in the foreground or the center of the action.

Fun game, by the way!

Ok, for the cover theme game:

Each issue has people not necessarily impersonating, but taking on the qualities of others.

In Birds of Prey Lady Siva calls herself the "Jade Canary" and takes Black Canary's role, in Justice League America Martian Manhunter not only is Bloodwynd but also takes on the form of a Guardian in the story and in Justice Society of America other than the obvious legacy characters that run among the ranks, there is also the discussion of Damage not wanting to be like his father (the original Atom) but wears his mask anyway.

Or, if that isn't good enough, each book has something to do with Stars. In BOP THe Crime Doctor has glasses that are stars, in JSA there's Stargirl and Starman, and in JLA they face the Starbreaker.

That should be enough.

Uncany X-Men 119 as well.

I thought She-Hulk was the replacement member who best fit the FF. If she hadn't joined up would we have such great Thing stories as Secret Wars II #2?

On the cover game I think they all show characters who were members of the Justice League at one point and moved on to another team (specifically Gypsy, Hawkman, and Fire)(also Power Girl, Obsidian, and Damage)
