Eh, Silver Samurai may get beat a lot, but, let's face it, he's a bad guy: they're supposed to get beat in comics, no? ;)

On the other hand, how many people on this list use a teleportation ring they stole from John Belushi? I can only think of one... :) (Certainly, that should rank him higher than Silver Sable...)

True, Ted, but the Marvel/DC proviso was a later add-on. :)

So when Bill suggested Silver Star, it was in keeping with the rules, as laid out. I was just a stinker, and changed the rules later. :)

There's one thing about SILVER STAR that eliminates it from consideration here (I checked GCD): Kirby did this at Pacific (as a CAPTAIN VICTORY spin--off, I think, but GCD's indexes for both of these are too sketchy to confirm or refute), not DC or Marvel.

I was trying to figure out who the five could be, before I Clicked Here to Read More, and while I guessed five, I proved inept at thinking along with Brian. My five were Silver Surfer, Silver Scarab, Silver Slasher, Silver Swan and Silver Banshee. His five were better than my five.

I agree with most of your choices except for Silver Dagger.
This is the coolest Dr. Strange villain not created by Steve Ditko! In fact, he is my personnal favorite. Steve Englehart created a very interesting villain, one of the rare ones for the good Doctor that is not from another dimension or plane of existence. He should have been in the top 5.

I appreciated the Silver Sorceress mention. I liked the whole Marvel's Avengers parody/homage.

Good point on Silver Sable, it does seem like she was cursed into being badly drawn whenever she appears. I don't find her that cool and would have droped her from the Top 5.

Silver St.Cloud is my favorite Bruce Wayne love interest, after Catwoman. Julie Madison was the first one right? From the earliest Batman stories by Bob Kane? If so, I don't see the reason you find her interesting.

Silver Surfer belongs to the very top of course.

Silver Samurai is a cool villain. Althought he was not always well written.

Quicksilver has always been a personnale favorite, from his beginning as on of Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, to his (and sister Scarlet Witch) redemption into Avengers to his solo series, to Ostrander's HEROES FOR HIRE and his solo series from the 90's.

As for Silver Star, as much as I like about everything Jack Kirby's hand as touched, Silver Star wasn,t his best work.

So my top 5 would have been:
1) Silver Surfer
2) Quicksilver
3) Silver Dagger
4) Silver Samurai
5) Silver St. Cloud

I definitely believe there are a lot of bad drawings of Silver Sable, especially if that piece of ass you posted is the best you can find.

Oh, and Silver Agent saved the world at the same time as he was being electrocuted for a murder he didn't commit. Beat that, Silver Samurai.

Silver Samurai rocks the house. Sure he gets his ass kicked a lot but more importantly he's a samurai dressed all in SILVER. QED he is awesome. Also he's a playable character on Marvel vs Camcom 2, which also rocks the house.

I didn't realize that Silver Dagger was that old. Somewhere around here in my pile of Marvel Comics Presents, I have a story where Werewolf By Night was fleeing Silver Dagger "and his SWORD of the LORD!" In other words, an anti-werewolf lynch mob. When I was 13, the idea of a guy carrying twin Uzi submachine guns loaded with silver bullets was the Best Thing Ever, even if I didn't think that much of the story as a whole (as I recall, I bought it for Black Panther and Cyclops stories running at the same time?)

Hey, wait a minute, um, hey, ahh - well, okay, I guess that works.

And, anyway, it's 3:00 AM and I'm old - why the heck am I hassling Cronin about the Silver Agent? I'm going to bed.

Oh! I know! How about I change the theme to include only Marvel Universe and DC Universe characters?

That would give me a good reason to exclude Silver Agent, and would not be an insult to the guy (who I DO like)!!!

Maybe I missed some Astro City issues, but haven’t we mostly just seen the Silver Agent in background pieces of the “main” story?

Actually, if you go the Astro City home page he's the first thing you'll see. He's had some important parts in the past - but he died in 1973, so you don't see him in any of the comics set in the current era.

And, while I hate to disagree with Brian Cronin, I would have put Silver Agent at #2 - the only one you listed who's cooler is the Silver Surfer (who you definitely got in the right spot). Fun list, by the way.

Silver Sorceress never impressed me much. I always found Blue Jay to be the more interesting of the two by far. It's a pity he's never really been used since he left the JLE.

I think I was just too irked by seeing Vanessa a villain to get into that storyline.

But I DO think it was kinda weird how Vanessa and her mother were dropped during Byrne's run. Same with Chunk and Connie in Waid's Flash run.

"Silver Swan - that was an actually pretty decent concept, but they really didn’t do much with it, I don’t think."

Actually, Phil Jimenez (whom nobody will claim is nearly as good a writer as he is an artist) did great things with the character. She started out as a B-list Wonder Woman villain — but then Jimenez recast the role. Now the woman with the wings and the sonic scream was Vanessa Kapetelis, who was a fine supporting character in Diana's cast all during George Perez's run, but of course the dreadful John Byrne chucked all of Diana's supporting cast to create his own. Vanessa, jealous that she had never been given the opportunity to become Wonder Girl instead of Cassie, became the Silver Swan. This new dynamic really raised the stakes. And, unlike so many other loved-ones-turned-antagonists who become possessed and fight the hero (eg., Star Sapphire), there was the underlying issue of Diana's neglect of Vanessa. In other words, our hero was partly to blame for the tragic turn of events. Good stuff.

“Silver Swan – that was an actually pretty decent concept, but they really didn’t do much with it, I don’t think.”

Actually, Phil Jimenez (whom nobody will claim is nearly as good a writer as he is an artist) did great things with the character. She started out as a B-list Wonder Woman villain — but then Jimenez recast the role. Now the woman with the wings and the sonic scream was Vanessa Kapetelis, who was a fine supporting character in Diana’s cast all during George Perez’s run, but of course the dreadful John Byrne chucked all of Diana’s supporting cast to create his own. Vanessa, jealous that she had never been given the opportunity to become Wonder Girl instead of Cassie, became the Silver Swan. This new dynamic really raised the stakes. And, unlike so many other loved-ones-turned-antagonists who become possessed and fight the hero (eg., Star Sapphire), there was the underlying issue of Diana’s neglect of Vanessa.
