Boris the Bear vs Zombies.

It's the right thing to do.

Sadly, the rest of the series didn't really keep the same awesomeness ratio as the 1st 10 or so issues; it was also much more "real world" (other than an anthropomorphic talking robot bear). Imagine a two-page spread of a small bear haranguing nonplussed suburban stoner teens regarding drug use leading to a dead end. AIR BatBear, PunishBear, RocketBear etc. were mostly (but not entirely) fantasy stories. There was an arc where Boris was in outer space with amnesia and joined an all-anthro space adventurer team. Issue #34 was part 1 of a story arc which was never completed.

Trivia: Boris the Bear was the 1st book produced under the Dark Horse imprint. (The BtB archive says it's the second, DHP presumably being the first, but I stand by my 21 year old memory as well as Amazing Heroes promo material.) I read somewhere (probably in a Nicotat era BtB text page) that James Dean Smith was forced/strongly persuaded/etc. to go the comics satire route by DH's founder Mike Richardson, who wrote the early issues. Later issues - especially when self-published as Nicotat - were truer to Smith's vision. He had various personal life problems (illnesses/deaths in the family) and financial/organizational problems resulting in periodic delays. Boris' Adventure Magazine was published sporadically during the BtB Nicotat run.

Notwithstanding the above, I'm still planning to get the new issue (available ONLY through the website: my LCS guy checked) and hope for the best. I only wish I could find anyone else in my area interested, to combine & save on shipping costs.

For the second day in a row I think the idea behind the character is more of a reason to love comics than the character himself.

That you could do stories based on killing parodies of other characters could only be done in comics. I mean you could do an episode of a cartoon on it, but a whole series? That is a reason to love comics.
