You're right about comics universe, which is why I think a Batman/Superman movie would blow people's minds-- because quite a few of the millions going to see it probably have no concept of a shared universe in fiction, aside from TV spin-offs.

The OH-whatever is a great little resource to find ridiculous and obscure characters like Razorback, but it's kind of a shame that a fictional universe needs a handbook.

I'm really sorry about your niece, John. My condolences to your family. Hang in there.

maybe it should be mandatory to read the OHOTMU for comic writers. they would get familiarised with the stories and characters, and there wouldn't be a need for someone to keep everything straight.

I find that the OHOTMU books aren't just a great way to track continuity, but are also fun to read in and of themselves, particularly the entries that encapsulate a single character's career. I have a completely different outlook on Alicia Masters now, for example, than I did based on the few Fantastic Four stories involving her that I had personally read.

One thing that puzzles me is that, despite the effort that this series (which has "OFFICIAL" written in big letters on it) goes to, many current writers seem ignorant of important facts, from how certain characters' powers work to outright complete stories that featured them. CIVIL WAR was full of such errors. I understand that the comics themselves are the true source, but there's no excuse for poor research, especially in our Internet-dominated era. You'd think both Marvel and DC would have persons in charge of keeping things straight, but it seems they're only paying lip-service to continuity for the fans' sake.
