Easily one of the best comics of all time. The artwork is beautiful. The story is a home run. This book defines perfection.

Oh, lord, here's a comic that's so good I know I can never, ever read it. Just looking at those covers, I'm a puddle.

Hear, hear!

One of the absolute best comics I've ever read. I was waiting for this one to pop up on Grant Morrison week.

By the way, as far as I understand it, it was Morrison's idea to use the 18-panel grid pages for the escape. I'd love to know how much else about the groundbreaking art design was his creation.

Incidentally, has anyone ever seen The Plague Dogs? I'm surprised that it hasn't been mentioned in more reviews of WE3 because it's highly similar in concept.

And I agree: poor Pirate. At least he went down swinging. "Uh-oh."

We3 was a fantastic graphic novel. Unfortunately, I've managed to forever sour a couple of people on comics by letting them read it: they're animal lovers, and were entirely too grossed out by the topic and unable to follow the story. Quitely's layouts, while gorgeous and expressive, aren't the easiest for a newcomer.

That's a faint criticism, however - Bach's fugues aren't for beginners either.

God, that comic is perfect. The fight against Weapon 4 was the most suspenseful sequence I've ever read in a comic. I can't wait for the movie, especially since Morrison wrote the script.

A toast to Pirate.

I'm not so interested in the movie, but yes, I have to see it.

I came late to the We3 lovefest as I was on a more "limited" budget when it first came out.

I picked it up earlier this week. Have read it once a day since. Just amazing.

Hiya

I'm only too happy for you to reproduce the WE3 spoof here, but could you give us a credit? I wrote it, Si Penter drew, inked and lettered it. Cheers!

One of my favourite comics too, and I've merrily spread the virus by giving the paperback as a birthday present.

It's one of those great examples of not only a great story but a great comic too, the way panel layouts are used and the medium is experimented with make you realize this wouldn't be the same in any other medium (it could make a great movie though, but it would be an entirely new *ahem* beast. Sorry.). And it's still a very accessible work too!

Now this one I like. And even though I'm normally quite blasé about Quitely's work this one really made me take notice of just how good his visual sense is. His layouts rock.

"Three animals– a dog, a cat, and a rabbit– are turned into cyborg killing machines by the government."

That's why this is my favorite comic to describe to people.

Oh yeah. One of the best series I've ever read, which puts Granty on there twice with Flex Mentallo.

If you don't jump up in that scene above where Tinker jumps on Weapon Four, well, there's just no hope for your dead arse. And there are at least three scenes, not to mention those covers, that get me a little misty every time.

One can nitpick it, and believe me people did when it was coming out in singles, but for my money it's one of the best ever.
