Back to a Wednesday release, and back to you, the good readers, to help me out!
Gander the shipping list. Read below at the pamphlets I’m already buying:
Martha Washington Dies (maybe; I’ll decide at the store)
Star Wars: Legacy #14
Fables #63
JLA: Classified #40
Madman Atomic Comics #3
X-Factor #21
Man, that’s a weak week, isn’t it? Sheesh. As always, I point out a few things, even though someone will suggest something I mention here. I’m buying BPRD mini-series in the trades, so I won’t be getting that. Ditto with 100 Bullets. I already own Nextwave, so I won’t be buying the trade. Other than that, tell me what I should get and why. I’m at your mercy!

StormWatch is in the middle of a storyline, so it won’t be the most accessible, otherwise I’d suggest that. It is one of the most consistently well written books out there, so I’d pick it up if you get a chance to read the previous issue as well.
Green Arrow: Year One should also be pretty interesting. Diggle and Jock were amazing on the Losers and if they can carry that chemistry into this one, it’ll be worth your $3. Plus, despite being such an over-the-top character, I think that GA could fit well into the faux-realism they are applying here.

If 100 Bullets # 84 isn’t enough to whet your appetite, then you should check out the long-awaited first issue of NEXUS: A SPACE OPERA in almost 10 years!!!
Can’t miss the DUDE man!

The more insane stuff I hear about the Dude, the more I’m tempted to pick up Nexus. Man, he’s weird.

Devil. Dinosaur. Omnibus.

The new Nexus is also at the top of my list for this week, but yeah, the Dude has come off as kinda weird in the more recent interviews that I’ve read.

Madman’s in the midst of a pretty dense narrative, so I’m hesitant to push that, although you know it’ll be gorgeous.
I’m gonna give Deadpool/GLI a shot. GLA isn’t my favorite Slott work, but it was solid and made me smile a few times, so I’m in for this one.
I’d recommend Xombie. It’s been a fun, easily accessible comic that manages to do something unique with a well-worn premise.

Oops, you’re already buying Madman, so forget that. Sorry.

Black Diamond Detective Agency
Such wonderful Eddie Campbell goodness. The free comic book day preview was awesome, and he has been describing his choices of paper for different pages on his blog, which has only made me want to read this more.
Since you are not buying much, the HC cost should not be that big of a deal.
if not that then the UNCLE SAM AND THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS mini was a great read so you should pick up the TPB if you have not read it.

My vote for Nexus!!

Afraid my whole list is all guilty pleasures. Alien Pig Farm is so freaking bad, it’s kind of fun. The Deadpool/GLI Summer Spec-whatever should be a ton of fun. Gotta love a “crossover” that doesn’t involve the latest marvel non-event. If you’ve never caught any of Tek Jansen’s adventures on The Colbert Report, you’re missing out on what could be the very worst storytelling of all time. All three books should be good for a laugh, none of them take themselves very seriously (which is refreshing, anymore). If you want to torture the crap out of yourself, pick up New Avengers 32 and have fun squinting at the art and trying to decipher the story.

My vote definately goes with deadpool/GLI. The GLA miniseries rocked, and so did the winter special. And this comes from a guy who doesn’t like any of Dan Slott’s other comic work. And its got deadpool! Deadpool always rules!

Stephen Colbert’s TEK Jansen!!!! Buy it or the terrorists win!

I’d go with Green Arrow: Year One. I’m about the last person to buy a Green Arrow book, but you can’t possibly go wrong with Andy Diggle and Jock doing an action story. Awesomeness is almost guaranteed.

I second the reunion of Diggle & Jock on Green Arrow: Year One.

I’m getting Nexus and GLI/Deadpool, but couldn’t tell you to choose between them. Flip through GLI/Deadpool, see if it grabs you, if it doesn’t, go with Nexus.

Deadpool/GLI or Tek Jansen. Or Nexus, if you’re not in the mood for extreme silliness.

I’m gonna check out GA Year One because of Diggle & Jock. (But doesn’t their name combo sound like some kind of porn producer/distributor outfit?)

I think Nexus and GA: Year One sound like good choices.

Diggle and Jock on Green Arrow Year One should be a lot of fun.
Great artwork and most likely a fun, action-packed story from Diggle.

The FCBD Nexus preview was pretty cool, I suggest giving that a shot. I dropped that JLA: Clazsified arc though, yeesh, that’s just bad writing, and the artwork is horrid. Why does everyone have giraffe necks?

You should get Fantastic Five just so I am not the only person on Earth purchasing it.
Holy shit, the Devil Dinosaur Omnibus is out so soon? MUST BUY
Holy shit, the Rex Libris trade is out? MUST BUY

Decide now! Get the Martha Washington book!

I also recommend checking out Green Arrow Year One, or GAY1 as the kids are calling it.

this week I’m getting:
BPRD, Martha Washington Dies, Green Arrow year 1, Countdown (I know…Im still intrigued), Superman, Madman Atomic Comics, X Factor, Nexus and The Tick.
I might pick up JSA…maybe. And maybe the Deadpool/GLI crossover.
My suggestion: hmm. I want to know what you think of Nexus, so I’m going with that.
but Green Arrow year 1 will probably be great, and not just because abbreviated it is GAY1 .

I’m going to recommend either Annihilation Conquest: Wraith #1 or Nova #4. The prologue set up what looks to me like a far more interesting crossover than 5 months of the Hulk dressed up like an Orc punching shit, and the respective writing teams were responsible for my favorite parts of the last Annihilation (Grillo-Marxuach’s Super Skrull and Abnett and Lanning’s Nova miniseries).
However, seeing what everyone else is recommending, I’ll throw my support behind Green Arrow Year One. Diggle and Jock are enough to get me interested in the trade when it inevitably comes, whereas GLA/X/I/Whatever has always seemed trying too hard to be clever for me, and the Tek Jansen preview in EW was kind of dismal, honestly.

If you haven’t read the pamphlets, do give the Rex Libris paperback a look. A great combination of two-gun action, jokes and pretentious literary references, with a unique art style.

I must be really out of synch with the rest of the comic-reading community. Every week I give this feature a look, to see what people are liking, and every week the majority of people recommend some incredibly stupid, mediocre stuff that I wouldn’t read for free.

Since you’re getting the only comic I’m getting this week, with Madman, I’m going to make a suggestion and go with MARTHA WASHINGTON DIES. I used to like the first few Martha Washington books, but this might be cool to read.
Or go for broke and get a good laugh at New Avengers.

Deadpool/GLI!!!!
My thoughts on GAY1 are that regardless of who is on it, this story has been done so many times before that there’s not much new to be told without throwing a wrench into the works of continuity or losing all the fun bits like GA using the elastic from his socks.
The Annihilation books are also sure to be an excellent read, if the prologue was any indication.
Tek Jansen sounds like fun from what I’ve read about it. We’ll see. I’ll give it ONE issue to win me over.
I also might pick up JSA and F5. Ah, who am I kidding? I’ll pick them both up! The question is, will I read them or not? And if I do, will I enjoy them?
And I personally thought that UNCLE SAM AND THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS sucked ass, except for the too-short appearances of Ray Terrill at the end.

Hmm, forgot about Tek Jansen. But who knows.
And GLI/Deadpool has Squirrel Girl, and we know how cool she is.

I just read the 1st Rex Libris trade – it was fantastic. Is the one listed here the 2nd one?
Either way, highly recommended.

The Rex Libris trade has to be the first one, because only 8 issues are out. And yes, to the people who have recommended it, I buy them in singles. I forgot to mention it. It’s a fantastic comic, though.

The Deadpool/GLI Summer Special of course. Must buy!!
And finally the start of Annihilation: Conquest with Nova and the Wraith Mini.

Let me add my vote for Deadpool/GLI Summer Special. It must be quite funny, judging from the previous Slott-written comics with the characters!
Best,

I had a dream last night that I read the Deadpool/GLI thing and it sucked. Now I’m not so sure about it. Sad that I’m dreaming about comics…

Annihilation is your friend.
Specifically, I’d take a look at Wraith. The Lost writer did such an awesome job on Super Skrull.

I think the answer has been said so many times by now that I don’t really need to actually repeat it.
“You should get Fantastic Five just so I am not the only person on Earth purchasing it.”
I’m number two then, Bill! I don’t know why…call it an ill-advised nostalgia for DeFalco’s Fantastic Four. I know it sucked but, man, I’m going to buy the damn thing anyway. Might be fun. Plus, it’s got Lyja, and she hasn’t been mentioned in the actual FF book since…issue 4 of volume 3?
Nice to see her talked about in the latest Black Panther though.

I have such an unnatural love for DeFalco’s FF because it’s one of the first books I followed monthly and there’s something so absurd about having two of the main players in a FF book be Kristoff and Scott Lang.

Oddly enough, I had a dream that H3yd read Deadpool/GLI… and it ROCKED!
And I find it even sadder that I’m dreaming ABOUT H3yd reading comics…
