I'm probably the only person ever to not only think that Yu's Avenger art is really good, but is getting better. Yeah it is rough, but I think it works with the characters and the coloring very well. I hate Suayan's MK work, but I'd say the same for him, MK #11 looked better than the past few issues.

CHEERS, and big ones at that, to Marc SumerakFred Van Lente’s expert integration of Franklin Richards into being friends with Power Pack,

Why is this a cheers? Franklin was a member of Power Pack, as Tattletale.

A special CHEERS should go out to Frank Quietly's work on All Star Superman #8 - my favorite little detail is Bizzaro Statue of Liberty carrying a morning star instead of a torch.

[Q]JEERS to DC’s weird “answering” of what the old teaser image for Countdown represented, and, like, half of the images really WEREN’T answered.

“As you can see, Bart Allen has one foot in the grave” or something like that. How is that a TEASER for ANYthing?!!? What silly nonsense.[/Q]

Abso-fraggin-lutely. I have no real feelings about Didio one way or the other, but my god that whole "reveal" about that image was bizarrely lame.

Symbolism is one thing, but COME ON.

I hope this isn't a new trend. bleh.

Actually, BKV did a version of "the Most Dangerous Game" in Ultimate X-Men, even titling the arc that, and paired the concept with reality tv and Mojo, and it worked out quite well, imo.

Yes, Van lente's work was great.

It was, however, apparent there was a writer switch.
Not a bad thing, but when I saw Van Lente, not Sumerak was doing it, a lot made more sense.

Man I love Power Pack.

It’s a Marvel heroes take on the classic short story/film The Most Dangerous Game. Which is a great idea.

No, that's still a terrible idea. Not only has that story been ripped off millions of times already, sticking superheroes in there doesn't add anything new to it. It's just a tired retread.

APODACA said: "Characters get together because they both have claws? No, that would be a stupid idea."

Clearly, Cheers/Jeers is not Snark-Free Waters.

CLAWS was everything you said--the part about the claws, that is--and more. It's a Marvel heroes take on the classic short story/film The Most Dangerous Game. Which is a great idea. And which was poorly executed at best.

I don't get why this place constantly uses the adjective 'dorky' to imply something sucks, and wishes to be jeered. I don't know, I see it all the time here at CSBG. It just seems so ... sophomoric.

I assume you meant to say “… appearing as though he IS mocking the original concept.” Because he really isn’t, right? Because last time I checked, there were lots and lots and lots of contemporary writers who are perfectly capable of writing as if they ARE mocking the original concepts.

Right on both points!

It was an errant "n't" and yes, plenty of writers are quite adept at mocking Silver Age concepts. Or rather, "showing their love for them by showing us how dumb the original stories were"

What is particularly stupid about the Van Lente/Sumerak mistake is that I KNEW that Van Lente was writing an upcoming story arc, so I THOUGHT that I had checked the credits and saw Sumerak.

So it's one thing to be careless - it's a whole other thing to hallucinate stuff. :)

"CHEERS to Marvel reprinting Stern and Byrne’s Captain America. That was some damn fine comic books, right there."

Agreed BUT why did they start so late in the run--in fact, at run's end? The TPB spine does not have a number on it, suggesting that they won't be doing the half-year-or-so that preceeded it. Which is a crying shame. That said, the cover of Cap 253 (which IS included) is one of my all-time favourite comic covers:
http://www.artofjohnbyrne.com/cgi-bin/page.pl

--------------

"...Palmiotti’s pretty poor installment in Spirit #7, which he also should have gotten JEERS for."

I'll trust your word and stay away. JP is so hit and miss. CLAWS was a good idea with disgusting execution on the writing front (and the art only made it worse), meanwhile JONAH HEX is one of the very best books on the market right now.

"BUT

Mega Cheers from me for FVL managing to write so great an issue of Fantastic Four/Power Pack that there wasn’t even a tiny bit of quality lost from Sumerak’s issues, which are probably the best thing Marvel has been putting out in the last year. "

Wow... thanks for the praise!
And kudos to Fred Van Lente for kicking off his 4-issue arc on POWER PACK with style!
See you (and the Pack) again VERY soon...
