I Know It's A Bit Late In Appreciating It...

But man, this Ryan Sook House Ad from last month is really gorgeous (click on the image to embiggen it).
They should get Ryan Sook to do a teaser poster for Countdown. I bet it would look a lot better than what they've had so far.
Oh, by the by, when is Sook going to do interiors again?

That's an excellent ad. Looks like it should be a cover. Old school villains, old school logo (and the word "alive" is cleverly in ruins)... which Flash is that supposed to be, exactly?

That would be Bart.

The image actually *was* a cover. Not sure what issue exactly, but a very similar image was a great cover for an old-school Barry Allen Flash issue.
I'm still wavering about Countdown as a story, but the advertising and art direction for it rocks!

And please note, Bart seems to have one foot in the gray. (Rimshot!)

I wish I had one foot in Didio's ass.

It's a great looking ad, but I'd be highly disappointed if I bought the book based off it.
"Oh, so, all they did was actually just beat him to death. SUBSCRIPTION TIME!"

I don't think I had ever noticed that that was Sook's art! I love me some Sook.It is an awesome cover, and even more so if you move the image so that the 'Countdown' byline isn't showing.

Man, I hope the Flash is okay.

It's based on Flash v.1 #174, the "Stupendous Triumph of the Six Super-Villains!" by Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson (1967)
Interestingly enough, two decades ago, Mike Mignola redid the cover for Secret Origins #41 (1989), an issue which told the origins of a half-dozen Rogues.
Scans of both at the above link for comparison.

Right, sorry, guys, my brain is so wired with cover homages from Snark Free Corner that I just automatically assume that other people recognize notable cover homages.
My bad!
Still, what a great piece.

He did a short story in the 'The Goon: Noir' anthology that came out two weeks ago. The man sure knows how to handle a pencil.
