He did a short story in the ‘The Goon: Noir’ anthology that came out two weeks ago. The man sure knows how to handle a pencil.

It's based on Flash v.1 #174, the "Stupendous Triumph of the Six Super-Villains!" by Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson (1967) Interestingly enough, two decades ago, Mike Mignola redid the cover for Secret Origins #41 (1989), an issue which told the origins of a half-dozen Rogues. Scans of both at the above link for comparison.

I don’t think I had ever noticed that that was Sook’s art! I love me some Sook.It is an awesome cover, and even more so if you move the image so that the ‘Countdown’ byline isn’t showing.

The image actually *was* a cover. Not sure what issue exactly, but a very similar image was a great cover for an old-school Barry Allen Flash issue.

I’m still wavering about Countdown as a story, but the advertising and art direction for it rocks!

That’s an excellent ad. Looks like it should be a cover. Old school villains, old school logo (and the word “alive” is cleverly in ruins)… which Flash is that supposed to be, exactly?
