Mark Millar has some very vocal haters, but with the exception of the crappy Babe Race 2000 he's never failed to entertain me when he writes solo.

Oh crap, I quoted Dan but forgot to post a comment! What I meant to say in reply was yes, I haven't liked any of the collobarations between them that I've read, (I hated Skrull Kill Krew, which was even drawn by Yeowell, and was thoroughly underwhelmed by Aztek and their Swamp Thing arc), and think they're better seperate than together (because, yes, I do happpen to think that Millar's done some good work). However, Voodoo Mandella? Sold!

Personally when Morrison and Millar team up the results are usually not as good as either Morrison or Millar on their own, but with big Dave they struck gold.

The New Adventures of Adolf Hitler is just about the only thing Morrison's written since he started Zenith that I haven't read. Damn you for being out of print!

And Big Dave is great. Personally when Morrison and Millar team up the results are usually not as good as either Morrison or Millar on their own, but with big Dave they struck gold. Where else would you get Nelson Mandela practising voodoo (or maybe zulu?) magic to raise the 1966 England World Cup team from the dead?

You mention the pattern work by Steve Yeowell. The background patterns and barmy colour-scheme were added by Nick Abadzis who coloured the story for Crisis (it was black and white in Cut).

Big Dave was (IIRC) was written by Peter Milligan, and it was a satirical strip starring Big Dave, the archetypal Sun reader (the Sun is Britain's best selling newspaper, and defies description. Have a look: http://www.thesun.co.uk/ ).

Big Dave was a macho he-man who wore tracksuits, drank lager, shagged loads of birds (to use his vernacular), hated foreigners and liberals, and had two enormous pitbulls named Stan and Kickboxer.

Personally, I found it hilarious, but I think it may not have gone down so well with people who didn't get that you weren't really meant to like or agree with Dave... compounded by the fact that it also went down very well indeed with some others who didn't get it either, if you see what I mean.

Not what I was expecting but interesting because I'd never seen much about this series. On another 2000 AD note, has anyone read Big Dave? There was apparently some controversy over that too.

Wow, this takes me back to a time when there was a genuine excitement about the British comics scene, with Crisis, and Deadline, and Escape all putting quality stuff out on a regular basis. Damn you America, and damn you modern life, for constantly insisting on moving forward!
