But the main point is, Busiek is far from being a consolation prize…in fact, the only thing interesting me even remotely in the project right now is the attachment of his name to it.

That all depends on which Kurt Buseik we get.

If we get the Kurt Buseik who wrote Marvels, Astro City, Secret Identity and Arrowsmith then I'm all over this.

If (as seems more likely) we get the Kurt Buseik who wrote Avengers Forever, JLA: Syndicate Rules and The Power Company then I'm not so interested

I would point out that Busiek is a "big name"; in fact, I think you could make a pretty reasonable argument that he's the biggest-name writer in the industry who would actually consent to doing a big crossover right now. (Possible exceptions being Waid and Morrison.) But I do think he's a more well-known and well-respected writer than Geoff Johns--not only does he have some high-profile runs on big series to his name (Avengers, Superman, Marvels) and JLA/Avengers under his belt, he's also got serious indie-cred with 'Astro City'.

Wolfman at the time of 'Crisis', that's debatable...certainly, he was the biggest name in DC's stable of writers, but that's not entirely the same thing as being the biggest name in the industry. DC used 'Crisis' to lure in big name writers, but at the time it was written, 'Teen Titans' was really their only big seller.

I'm glad that the 2 books I read aren't affected by this tripe. Still better than the nasty looking EVS and Jimenez teasers.

It's flat and dull and doesn't even make me curious as to what's happening.

I'd say it's better than the others (especially the Mary Marvel one) but diarrhea is better than a bloody stool, but it's still diarrhea.

Still, I'm not really expecting much from Final Crisis. So far it seems to lack the key ingredients for a good Crisis:
- There aren't any major titles that need or are even susceptible to rebooting. Hell, most of DC's big were just rebooted within the last couple years.
- There's nothing that needs fixing. The original Crisis undid the multiverse and streamlined the DCU, Zero Hour theoretically fixed varying timelines and theoretically streamlined the DCU, and Infinite Crisis theoretically fixed the pervasive darkness of the DCU and made it more fun again while simultaneously restoring the multiverse. What's left for Final Crisis to do?

- Most importantly, there's no Flash to kill. Bart just died and Wally just got back. The only one that would leave on the chopping block is Jay, and I can't see DC killing the original Flash.

No, I'm willing to bet right here and now that, at least in terms of major lasting repercussions, Final Crisis will be more on par with Invasion or Millenium, maybe Legends if it tries hard enough.

Let's all just hope it's not the next Bloodlines.

It pretty much looks like he did the big three and then was asked to add the other three, and had to just put them where they'd fit without modifying the original composition. The big 3 actually look like the composition was intentional, while the rest could be anywhere on the page.

I found it rather the opposite side of the world from striking. The poses look kind of silly. There's no great compositional aspect to it. It doesn't tease anything. It actually kinda seems a bit silly.

And there are at least ten covers per month from DC (as seen in Judging Books by Covers...) that far outstrip this piece in terms of either art or craft or concept or design or dynamism. So yeah. not a fan.

I don't think colorform art is necessarily a BAD thing - it is just that it very easily CAN look really bad.

I think Jones pulls it off here, but you're definitely on the money with the colorform comment.
