What will Millar and Hitch's next project be?
- by Brian Cronin
- in General
Newsarama has some new preview pages up of Millar and Hitch's upcoming super-secret Marvel project.
What do you think it will be?
The main clues from Millar are :
An established title. Household name. One of these characters was created in the sixties and another in the forties. Three sexy girls. The opening line in the first issue is "Once Upon A Time". The villain in the third and fourth issues has been known as Cap. Bruce Banner has some involvement in this series. Likewise, two of Marvel's most popular and famous villains. Hitchy prefers it to Ultimates.
And Hitch apparently said it is not the Fantastic Four.
What's your guesses?

Judging from the images...
"SHE-vengers"
She-Hulk & Wasp are definitely 2 of them.
Wasp fills the "60's" quotient.
As for the '40's... VENUS? MISS AMERICA? BLONDE PHANTOM?
Was NAMORA created in the 40's?
As for the bad guy... is that the giant "Captain America" robot-thing?
Was known as "Cap"? US AGENT?
It looks good, but thus far, looks VERY much like the ULTIMATES.
Which means it should be good.
I hope.

“SHE-vengersâ€
I think you mean the Lady Liberators.
Maybe to figure out Cap we need to look at all the characters with Cap in their name
Captain America
The Captain
Captain Marvel
Captain Britain
Captain
etc.

third should be patsy walker, 40s romance character, who became Hellcat

I would be tremendously irked to lose McDuffie on FF for Millar.

Whatever it is, it should have a subtitle of "How to not do your job and still get paid." Hitch may be a great artist, but if he can only make one book every 9 months or so, it's just not worth the effort.

The thing that throws me every time I think of a possibility is "household name". Fantastic Four, Hulk, X-Men, Spider-Man are about the only Marvel household names. I've been surprised at the number of people I've talked to recently, that have never heard of Iron Man; and certainly She-vengers or Lady Liberators and Defenders don't have that recognition.
Unless he meant "household name" in households visiting Newsarama and Millarworld daily. Which doesn't seem a very fair clue. Because fans reading these sites are going to parse these clues to their component atoms.
Miss America is a "household name", but not an established title.
Oh, I give up ... I'll just go read a book.

I believe at some point Millar said or hinted that it will be a re-launch of an existing title, which leaves open the possibility that it could be a re-titled version of the FF...
We'll know soon enough!

I was saying yesterday-- I really hope it's some kind of high-octane Millie the Model series.

I'm pretty sure they're doing something with Hellcat, who of course was created in the 40's as Patsy Walker...

Hmmm...so Defenders would seem to be the best bet, no?

Defenders does seem like the best bet, though "household name" outside of comic fandom is stretching it.
I've been trying to think of a roster that would satisfy Millar's hints.
Hellcat (sexy girl #1, created in 40's)
She-Hulk (sexy girl #2, Banner's "involvement")
But who else? Lots of possiblities are tied up in other team books or plotlines (Dr. Strange, Silver Surfer, Moondragon) And who's the "created in the 60's" member?
Would they bring back Scarlet Witch already? She'd kill the sexy girl#3 and 60's birds in one stone, plus take Strange's place as team mystic.

It _must_ be Avengers. Cap, Namor or Winter Soldier may fill the 40s slot; Wasp or Black Widow may fill one of the girls slots as well as the 60s one.
I am hoping Grand Director to be the villain mentioned; these are great times to use the character.

I'm going with the defenders.
Avengers are already booked.

Perhaps the title of the book is not the household name, but rather one of the characters IN the book.
Thus, it could be Defenders (established title) and one of the stars can be The Hulk (household name).

You should take everything Millar says with a grain of salt though.
It's not like he's never lied to hype his books before.

Judging by the giant Captain America armor, I'd say Mega Morphs 2. Possibly featuring the "She-fenders" (She-Hulk, Namorita, Clea) with Jessica Jones as Jewel/Knightress.

since one of the main draw of the original defenders for me was the Hellcat/Valkyrie pairing, I hope it IS the Defenders, but I've said elsewhere I'm expecting Millar/Hitch to take over Ms Marvel - Brian Reed has said that he's got plans for the title up to issue 25 but, as far as I know hasn't committed beyond that.
EIther way, and whatever title it is , its Millar Hitch so I'm on board.

They'll only get paid their page rates plus royalties so obviously the royalties are good enough that it is worth the effort

I meant not worth the effort as a reader of a "monthly" book. Not worth th eeffort of trying to get it off the stands as it comes out. The story & art will likely be great, so the trade will be worth getting, bit not as a semi-annual monthly series. Hitch simply can't hold a schedule.
