I liken this to the passing of Mike Parobeck: a young, hugely talented, yet underappreciated artist dies before his time. I will continue to read and love his work, and pine for what might have been.

That's really too bad. I was quite fond of Mike Wieringo's smooth style and expressive faces. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends. Know that he was talented and original. He shall be missed.

That's just really, really sad. He was a really nice guy too, at least, in the online conversations I've read with him, and by all other accounts.

You can keep your fishlips and your nine cheekbones in one face - Ringo was easily one of my favorite artists, and I was really bummed when I heard the word earlier today.

When was the last time a high-profile guy like this died? One who was still working, I mean? Dave Cockrum's death was huge, but he'd been sick for a while and not working. Mike was in the middle of some book for Marvel, and died suddenly...

If not for Ringo and Mark Waid's run on the Flash, I would not love superhero comics the way I do now. If not for that run of the Flash, I'm not sure I would've been open to discovering what comics had to offer beyond superheroes. I didn't know the man and obviously can't feel the same loss his family will, and yet his loss is is truly depressing and devastating to me. Ringo formed much of the basis of what I like in comic art and what I expect it to be. Losing him is just not fair.

This is tremendously sad and so unexpected. Wieringo was one of the absolute best contemporary comic book artists. It's a huge tragedy to lose an artist like that, and an even bigger tragedy to lose a man so early in his life and so suddenly.

My deepest condolences to Mike's family, friends and peers in the industry.

This hit me like a sledgehammer and has not stopped hurting ever since.
Both the real and the fictional world will be a bit bleaker, a little sadder for having lost him.
Ringo! was a great artist and a wonderful human being, he'll be forever remembered and sorely missed by all who shared his passion for the medium.
My deepest regards go out to his friends and family.
And for Mike himself (wherever you are):
You will not be forgotten.

I admit I first saw 'Ringo's art on Fantastic Four, rather than on Flash like most people did, but I loved it immediately. I know he took some hits for having a "cartoony" style, but sometimes that's what a book needs, and he was completely unabashed about it -- as he should have been. I loved the variant cover he did for Lions, Tigers, and Bears...it was just the perfect tone for the material. And his blog was so personal...he just seemed like such a great guy to know. The industry needs more great guys like Mike Wieringo, not fewer.
