As for what I *would* want to see, it's the story that introduced the Omega Men. But that's three issues long, I believe, so I doubt it would make the cut. But I think it's a great GL story. I enjoy it when the book does space opera.

I am just relieved that #76 was not included. It's been reprinted so many other places already. besides, I think it has got to be one of the most overrated comic book issues of all time. Honestly, I would have just told the old black guy "Okay, the next time some giant alien starfish show up to conquer the Earth, don't bother asking me to save the whole of humanity, because I'll probably be too busy using my ring to terrify some slumlord into bringing his buildings up to code."

The greatest GL story NEVER told would either be done by Kirby or Starlin. Kirby was the absolute master of teh over-the-top story with a heavy dose of "Holy Crap!" added in for pure spectacle. Jum Starlin just does great cosmic stories, which the GLC is tailor made for.

But of course, they'll never happen, and this isn't the tpoic of the post. I just had to chime in.

The Flash Greatest Stories book was pretty flawed for so many reasons. I'm pretty annoyed that the only Cary Bates-written story is a single tale: a 48 pager admittedly that uses 3 flashes-- probably why it was included-- but one that doesn't really demonstrate the breadth and inventiveness Bates brought to writing the Flash for almost 15 years. Better to just reprint lots of Broome and Fox stories instead. Still, it was a step up from the 1990s edition which didn't reprint a single Cary Bates story except to summarize the trial of Barry Allen issues (which DC really ought to put in trade!)

How about Kyle spending Christmas on monitor duty in Titans HQ and fighting Dr. Polaris? It's hard to pick out a good solo issue because most of Kyle's best stuff came in arcs.

The Driq atory from the Invasion storyline.
The one where Hal & Carol go back to visit his family at Christmas, and Dr Light shows up.
G'nort form GL Quarterly
The Alan Scott one where he goes to visit Doiby (Pat Broderick art)
ANd at least 2 Golden Age GL stories.

The Alan Moore stories probably weren't included because they're all in the "DC Universe Stories of Alan Moore" book.

My Greatest GL Stories book would have to include that issue of the 70s JSA where Alan Scott goes crazy and hold Gotham hostage.

Oh wait. No. Not at all. I actually mean the first Guy Gardner/Ice date issue of JLI.

It wasn't just the best of Hal Jordan - It was virtually all Hal Jordan teaming up with other Green Lanterns.

Some very strange choices, there.

Agree with Randy - Green Lantern # 40 is the best Green Lantern story I ever read, though it's been reprinted recently. So I figure that's why it wasn't included - Same for the Neil Adamns Green Lantern and the Alan Moore written GL stories.

I don't remember which story GL #3 is from the 90's...is that the one with the Guy/Hal fight? While I generally enjoyed the first year or so of that book, I don't recall ANY single issues from that volume being worthy of inclusion in a "greatest" anything. And, yeah, Mosaic was great.

Gotta have GL #40 from 1965. It's got Hal, Alan, Doiby Dickles, an origin for the Guardians, and backstory for the whole Crisis on Infinite Earths mess. It's a good tale, too boot.

GL #0 has Kyle battling Hal Jordan and keeping his rin in the process. Okay, he does surrender the ring, but he took it back when Hal started going crazy again. Yeah...no real love for Kyle. I'd wonder if there would be a "best-of" for Kyle, but that would mean that Alex Ross would be called on to pain a cover, and I'm sure that he still wouldn't do it. Sorry to vent...I'm still in the "Fuck Hal Jordan" camp.

Speaking of Ch'p, the issue of Mosaic where he dies would have been a great inclusion. In fact, ANYTHING from Mosaic, one of the great underrated series.

I think the greatest Green Lantern Story (n)Ever Told would have to be (pre-crisis) when Hal Jordan is summoned to Springfield to deal with the menace of Bartman, only to find that all the residents of Springfield are yellow. Hilarity ensues.
