I couldn't understand some parts of this article, but it sounds interesting

I mean, really... It was a character that only rarely appeared and nearly all of those rare appearances were in terrible stories where she wasn't an important character anyway.

Oh, gosh, I'd never thought of that! And certainly, constantly resurrecting characters doesn't make fans more cynical about comic book death, necessitating ever-larger doses of gratuituous and pornographically violent deaths in order to get people to pay attention, only to have those deaths reversed as well, until nobody cares about any story anymore because if it turns out to be unpopular, they'll just undo it later on. The constant wave of retcons and resurrections certainly isn't jading an entire generation of comics fans. Kill away, I say! Kill away and bring back and kill away again! And then kill away again because even the other writers aren't paying attention anymore and nobody noticed that the character you killed was killed before in a different issue!

Deathcry being your favorite character is kinda like The Fab Four (a Beatles cover band) being your favorite band.

I would hope that people could get past their love for the character and appreciate the story.

Then again, a small part of me is still mad at Geoff Johns for wasting Jack Of Hearts and having him commit suicide.

Although I only snark about this because characters like Rocket Racer, the Puma, and Silver Sable have avoided the guillotine in these kinds of things. It's all fun and games until someone kills off a second string Spider-Man character from the late '80s/early '90s whom I like! Also, does anyone else consider Deathbird so lame that the idea that she there was a derivative character of her out there causes them physical pain? 'Cause it's doing that to me.

This is why I'm against the trend of gratuitous character deaths. Because everyone is someone's favorite character. Everyone has some obscure character that almost never shows up in comics, but every time they do, it's like Christmas that day. It's one of the joys of being a comics fan, and it's not wise for companies to kill that joy.

(That said, maybe these people can now transfer their enjoyment to the real Deathbird, instead of the lame 90s knock-off, and their favorite character will have a chance of actually showing up. Hey, I said I'd make fun...)
