Fair enough, then. Personally, I think the story works better without the epilogue, but I can understand why it's there.

Just to clear up any question, I did write every word of the epilogue.

The ending reminded me of the epilogue of Kill Bill Vol. 1. Not that it matters in any way. But that comparison just popped into my head.

I actually reviewed Wolverine #56 on my blog, because even though I expected Aaron and Chaykin to do something of quality, the issue was really, really good. Maybe the best single-issue of Wolverine ever?

I just ignored the epilogue. The success of the story has absolutely nothing to do with Romulus - it doesn't matter who the bad guys are working for.

In fact, I'm fairly sure that the epilogue has been tacked on to the story late in the day. It doesn't even read like Aaron's dialogue.

"And before you ask, yes, we took the usual precaution. Moved it through nine countries, using seventeen different couriers, all of whom are now very, very dead." I have no evidence for this beyond the rhythm of the dialogue, but I think that's an uncredited Daniel Way, doing a very bad Mark Millar impression.

I loved this issue and the reveal didn't take anything away from it for me.

As for Romulus, I think they know exactly who he is there just isn't much to him. I mean, he is an acient savage Wolverine type guy. Thats really all there is too it I think.

If he were just that, he would be an okay character, but the prophecy/history stuff does suck. I'm also waiting for "Remus" to show up.

Hmm,I don't know... the new Professor Zoom was maybe the last one?

And yeah, Romulus is stupid. I sense they have no idea who he is or what his story actually is, a la early Onslaught.

I don't know if this counts because he wasn't a brand-new baddie, but I always loved the way James Robinson built up The Shade in Starman.

So did Paul O'Brien.
For myself, I was unable to look past Romulus' inherent stupidity, and that pretty much ruined any pleasure I may have gotten from this story, for me.

I actually chose to ignore Romulus in this issue, because he's still stupid, even if Aaron made him a bit more intriguing than Loeb did.
