Dan, it’s been said many times before, but I’ll say it again: the bodies all the artists you mention draw fail to conform to reality because of design. The bodies Turner draws fail to conform to reality because of incompetence.

Well with Turner I think it's a bit of both. I do think he deliberately doesn't draw realistic people - but I also think he's a crappy artist who couldn't if he tried - as opposed to Jim Lee who probably could draw well if he chose to (and I believe has on a couple of occasions).

My point was though that the particular complaint of how his people would look in the real world isn't really a fair one in itself because it lumps a load of excellent artists in with Turner (which is something we should never do)

All the same though, despite the fact that Michael Turner is a crappy artist that's a really unfair thing to complain about.

A lot of artists aren't photo-realistic. Frank Quitely, Tim Sale, Bruce Timm, Kaare Andrews, Mike McMahon, Mike Avon Oeming, Eduardo Risso, Alberto Uderzo, Sergio Aragones, Herge and countless other artists are all excellent artists, but if you put people into the real world looking exactly like one of their pictures they'd all look like freaks!

Then you'd have sad fanboys trying to argue that some freaky skeleton-person is hot. And that would be funny.
