This was by far one of the most lacking and overrated issues I've seen in a while. Not only did the story contain very little significance to the arc as a whole, but I also had to pay extra for a "Spidey Biography" at the end. As he was swinging off at the end I kept asking myself, "This must be some kinda joke, and if not then that is the crappiest ending I've read in a looooong time." I'm a big Spidey fan, but this one gets a thumbs down.

Wow, that panel of Peter doing his elvis impression rules.

What a sack of crap. Joey Q finally gets his long-desired wish to get rid of Mary Jane, and he does it in the one way the readers can't argue away...

He clusterf'd the whole comic line to hell with the Civil War fest, turning the whole comic line into a "more realistic and gritty and EXTREME" crap tub of Red State/Blue State arguments...

and now he can use this "magic spell undo" as a reboot to RetCon the Civil War out of existence. Thereby regaining the readership who left when he turned a fascist drunk in a soup can into the Head of All Superheroes, murdering the icon of The Good America, Cap.

Who's gonna argue that?

And at the same time, he gets to undo MJ.

Hopping onto the artwork-hating bandwagon here with real alacrity. It's so clunkily stylised (in that top panel
the 'dramatic shadows' look more like Peter's mascara is running) that it feels more like lousy Batman art than lousy Spider-Man art.

I would say most comes from all the hoopla around it, if it will mean an end to Peter and MJ's marriage and/or the (third!) death of Aunt May. Quesada could be far away from it and it would STILL be a "hot" project.

A more cynical poster could suggest that he is eying the fat royalties that such a hyped storyline will generate, particularly now, when we can be sure that it will be reprinted in TPB format for all eternityâ€¦

If they wanted to do this weekly, why not get John Romita Jr.? Not only is he lighnting fast, he also drew a good portion of JMS's run and would therefore give a nice sense of closure.

I just wish I could actually be excited about "Brand New Day." I feel like an abuse victim at this point...even WITH Dan Slott's involvement, I'm actually dreading what's going to come next! And the whole Spider-Man/Iron Man confrontation only reinforces the point I made in the FNSM review I wrote a coupla weeks back...it's just so contrived. I mean, why go to Stark, even if Peter thinks Tony should share some of the blame? I guess it just wouldn't have been as "exciting" for him to turn to Danny Rand and go, "hey uh...a little help?" and the worst thing Danny does is strike his checkwriting stance. Sigh...

What really impresses me is that the Editor-in-Chief (you know, the guy who is supposed to make things run smoothly) will be pretty much delaying one of the top Marvel franchises Big Relaunch just because he wanted to do the work by himself instead of assigning another artist. Marvel is gonna lose A LOT of money on that.

I don't care either way, but I sure want see J. Michael Strangler out of Spider-Man (and Thor, and Marvel, and COMICS! Go back to Hollywood, Straitor, it even PAYS more, for dog's sake!) as soon as possible. And knowing that the only thing separating me from a much-desired Dan Slott Spider-Man is the EiC slowness doesn't make it any easier.

What I don't understand is why, if he knows that he hasn't been able to meet a MONTHLY deadline in a decade, did Joe Quesada schedule himself for a weekly series across all of the Spider-Man titles? Was it just pure ego or what? I'd ask him about it at a convention, but he'd probably just bring up the same old tired soundbyte that Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen were late too. Then I'd point out that nothing Quesada has ever been involved with will ever be even close to those titles and be ejected from said 'con.

Quesada's art reminds me a bit of Luke Ross's. You remember when Luke Ross was drawing Spider-Man just after the Clone Business?

That's my point, Ian. The only reason we have any reason to look forward to next issue is because we already KNOW about the Dr. Strange connection. Otherwise, the ending of this issue was simply, "Yeah, I'm going to go try SOMEthing else." That's not a great cliffhanger (although the drawing of Spidey swinging off was nice). And yeah, the "extra" content was absurd.

I'm a little confused, Peter clearly told the Doctor about how all sorts of things are possible "in his world" and we previously saw him going to a super-colleague for help. What more do you need?

You only know about Dr. Strange from the previews and bringing in that knowledge, is kind of cheating.

My beef, is the extra price of this issue for so little extra. The story was a tad longer, but when they add bio pages and call it extra content I always feel a little ripped off because I already buy most of the handbooks.
