But…but…

WHERE do we send you the free stuff, pray tell?

There's contact info posted here. E-mail me at monkeyspit and I'll reply with a physical address.

Although Boom! studios has a trick for review copies that I think is very clever -- they upload a PDF of the book to a website and send the press the private URL. We've gotten a couple that way, one that I'll be looking at in a few days -- probably next week -- and one that we're ALL doing as a group review, just for fun.

So which viewpoint did he give them to hate, sir? Ah, I’m just funnin’ with you.

I really hate when I miss things like that. Fixed now. In fairness, that was an unattributed quote from one of the news articles, but I still should have caught it.

And I bought The List of Seven and its sequel, The Six Messiahs, new in hardcover when they came out, on the strength of Mark Frost's name. I was also one of the nine people in the United States who watched the TV show Buddy Faro with Dennis Farina, for the same reason. All heartily recommended, for the reasons Rebis described. I'm a huge fan of Twin Peaks and we pay attention to writer credits in this house.

Finally, I don't know if Holmes specifically met Beowulf but I think there's at least some kind of a reference to him in Arthur Byron Cover's Holmes-in-the-afterlife-across-time-and-space book, An East Wind Coming. Though I could be misremembering. Still, I'd bet on it having happened at some point. Holmes gets around.

Hey Greg, I think I've mentioned this before, when you went on a Holmes jag in a column, but: Have you read the novel "The List of Seven" by Mark Frost. Really good thriller. Occult angle. Dark and creeeepy and also lots of fun — Arthur Conan Doyle is one of the co-protagonists. Smart book, with lots of "cameos" by actual people. I recommend it. (Frost, btw, is currently mostly a book writer — more novels as well as non-fiction — but I believe he cut his teeth in TV, writing for "Hill Street Blues" and then co-creating the awesome "Twin Peaks" with David Lynch. Being the bigger name, Lynch gets all the credit, but once you read "List of Seven," it becomes apparent that Lynch was only behind one-half of the show's twisted sensibility.)

As I’ve said before, it’s damn hard to find a Holmes crossover idea that SOMEONE hasn’t done SOMEWHERE

So when did the Holmes/Beowulf crossover happen?

Of course, thanks to complicated time travel mechanics, the whole thing never happened, but it is eerie.

I remember Holmes stormed off mad, shouting back at Ralph "Yeah, well I hope your wife gets brutally killed! JERK!". It seemed out of place at the time but it makes sense in hindsight.

Oh, I thought DC's Beowulf was pretty darn good. And by a weird coincidence, I just happen to have something to back my opinion up!

Remember when Holmes was mad at Ralph Dibny at that one party with H.G. Welles because Ralph caught Jack the Ripper before Holmes could?

Good times.

"... he really wanted a way to give Muslim kids an alternative viewpoint to hate." So which viewpoint did he give them to hate, sir? Ah, I'm just funnin' with you.

I saw that Allende book when it came out. It seemed like a strange thing for her to take on. I'll probably have to check it out, though.
