Spider-Woman was created to preserve the trademark on the name. Rumor was that a cartoon was coming out with a female character named Spiderwoman. (Note the hyphen is missing in the latter.)

There was a cartoon character that came out shortly after Spider-Woman was created that was named Webwoman. Coincidence? Comic Book Urban Legend?

Actually, Power Girl is arguably an incredibly terrible character (sorry, I don't buy into that "no bad characters, only bad writers" schtick one little bit). Stargirl, as a distaff heroine, can easily be argued to be blander and less interesting than any character who isn't a spin-off or revamp. It would take some amazing feats of logic to create an argument in which Oracle is not a better character than Jessica Drew. Note I define better here as "likely to generate strong and interesting story ideas, even in the hands of a mediocre writer". Since good writers, especially in comics, frequently specialize in using sleight-of-hand to make awful ideas seem acceptable in context by constructing stories that draw attention away from the character's more awful elements.

With all these little images Marvel loves to leak, it got me thinking about the practice in general...and you know what? Here's the teaser I wanna see: Spider-Man holding a little baby girl. The tagline: "The Wait is Over." Boo-Yah.

On another kind of tangent, albeit one that has just a LITTLE more to do with the image...how awesome was Robert Downey Jr. in that trailer for Iron Man?!

I've never been a huge Jessica Drew fan, but I'd definitely give a solo book starring her a shot before I'd try any solo book starring a DC female character.

I never cared anything about Spider-Woman, be it good or bad. I don't know that very many people did. That could be one reason they're having her go with Stark. The easiest way to have folks respond to a character is through care for their actions. Stark is generally hated right now, so having someone we don't care about align with him automatically makes us care about her, albeit negatively. The comic audience will collectively shift from indifference to dislike. This tactic is most effective when there is no apparent reason for the sudden shift.

For those who don't see this tactic, I point your attention towards pro wrestling. If they have someone nobody cares about, they have him do something everybody hates: sneak attack a main face, align with a heel, beat up a valet, etc.

I also count myself a Jessica Drew fan, for the record, although I'll be the first to admit that her original series had some incredibly horrible stories in, particularly those written by Michael Fleischer who was coasting throughout his stint. All his issues( at least up until Steve Leialoha took over the art) are bland and uninteresting.

No, I don't know why either.

I've only read about 5 issues with her in them, though 2 or 3 were from her mini, which I picked up on a slow week.
She was a single mum superhero before Eric MAsterson made it cool.

I have to say that I used to be a fan of Spider-Woman, but back before they tried to make her cool; Bendis' new 'It' girl.

Originally, she was insecure and awkward with other people. I always thought that msde her interesting.

I'm not terribly thrilled at the "Traitorous Jessica" we've gotten the last couple of years but Bendis has enough leeway with me to give him the benefit of the doubt that we haven't seen her whole story yet. I'm still waiting on that regular Spider-Woman series from Bendis and Maleev. It's been what, two years since it was originally announced...?

I like Jessica Drew. I really liked her recent mini and I have enjoyed her in New Avengers. I would go so far as to say I am a fan.

As for this relationship, I am for it. I think its an interesting idea to pair up Tony with another super-hero. Sure he's had some 'encounters' but have we ever seen a real relationship?
