Not a ton of books, so you guys have a lot to choose from.  Let me know what excellent book I am foolishly passing up!

Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes #34. Tony Bedard and Dennis Calero are doing a bang-up job of bridging the gap between Waid and Kitson on the one hand and Shooter and Manapul on the other. Sure, we're in the middle of a story, but they're keeping it easy to follow.

SPIRIT! Come on, there are three issues of Cooke's to go!

Don't think I've got anything for you, except for mabye Franklin Richard's Monster Mash. (I can't give a more resounding endorsement of little Franklin-cum-Calvin (with Herbie as Hobbes) because I haven't read it yet either, but I hear great things about it, so this'll be the issue I finally try.)

Definitely Avengers: The Initiative. It's been most of the most consistently excellent books from Marvel for the last few months, simply because Dan Slott is one of the best character writers around at the moment. It doesn't hurt that his pacing is as good as it is too. There's a fill-in penciller, which is a bit disappointing, but it's still a great book, and well worth picking up.

I love X-Men/Blue Beetle/Iron Fist week so very, very much.

There's an Iron Fist Annual too.

Don't miss it.

Past that, you can give McDuffie's first real Justice League issue a shot... orrrrr..

You can give McKeever's first real issue on Teen Titans a shot.

Honestly, I don't think it's going to pick up until after this first storyline. This was him using Johns/Beechan's idea. Next arc will almost certainly be more character driven.

Army of Darkness. How can you "no" to that chin?

Even though it's an Usagi Yojimbo week, I'd say that the Iron Fist Annual is the book to watch this week!

Hunter (Pedro Bouça)

I would say go for The Spirit, JLA, or Titans. Legion's doing pretty well, too, and I think this next issue is supposed to have Wildfire in.

This is the first week in... maybe forever that I've got more DC books on my shopping list than Marvel.

Glad to see I'm not the only one buying Left on Mission. Either Avengers: Initiative #6 or JLA #13 should be good choices, although I'm not sure if you're a Benes hater or not, so that may affect your decision.

As Matt D said, Immortal Iron Fist Annual #1 is also out this week, rendering the last week in September the iron-fistiest week of the year.

Story by the regular team of Brubaker and Fraction, art by Howard Chaykin, Jelena Djurdjevic and Dan Brereton. Sounds like a winner to me.

My pick is the Futurama Conquers the Universe TPB. The comics are funny sci-fi romps suitable for all ages. As a fan of the show, I find that the characterization is spot on and the humor is similar, and there are also a lot of little nods to engage me. I like this but can't stand the Simpsons comics, so if you don't like them, don't let that prevent you from trying Futurama!

Treasury of Victorian Murder: The Borden Tragedy was good. I checked it out from the library a while ago, so I'm not sure if this is a re-release or what, but I will recommend it. It's a straightforward historical account of the murders and trail. Written and drawn by Rick Geary.

Greg, was the Iron Fist annual just an oversight? (Full disclosure: I have a dog in the race now and don't want to be passed over for something you would have gotten anyway.)

Yeah, everyone, thanks for bringing the Iron Fist Annual to my attention. For some reason I zipped right past it. I'm definitely getting it, so if that was your choice, pick something else!

I noticed you aren't picking up Iron Fist Annual, but you are picking Iron Fist. Hopefully that is an oversight. Regardless, I recommend that for starters.

I'd also recommend Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters Vol. 2 #1. The first miniseries was a ton of fun, with great characters and a very off the wall plot. This one won't have Acuna on the art (which is good or bad depending on who you speak to), but should offer up the same level of awesomeness.

i have to second the uncle sam and the freedom fighters.

the last mini was tons of fun and this one promises to be more character driven.

I'm getting this week: Usagi Yojimbo, ASBAR, American Virgin, Batman, Countdown, Green Arrow year 1, Spirit, Uncle Sam, Criminal, Iron fist, Iron Fist annual, The Order, and X Men.

I'll vote for American Virgin

The Order #3 actually came out early last week. I loved it; probably the best so far.

Your list is quite close to mine, except I'm picking up A:C Starlord and Cable & Deadpool as well, but you've probably already looked at those.

I still maintain the best book nobody is reading is BONEYARD from NBM. Issue #26 comes out this week, as well as volume 3 of the trades in color. I recommend both as the series is intelligent, witty, and so very well drawn by Richard Moore.

Brit!

Despite being connected to events that occurred during Civil War, I've been really enjoying Sub-Mariner.

Ultimate Spider-Man continues to be the best of the various Spider-titles out there, the recent switch in artists making nary a dent in quality. I mean, how can you not love Stuart Immonen?

And... that's it for this week. Not much indy/alt stuff coming out that I could recommend, sorry.

Brit!!
AVENGERS INITIATIVE #6
Cable & Deadpool
Countdown to Adventure
Spirit
IMMORTAL IRON FIST ANNUAL #1
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #13

Spirit #10 and Justice League Of America #13

Wow, am I really the first person to recommend Astounding Wolf-Man #3?

It's early enough in the run that you haven't missed much, and it's shaping up quite nicely.

Best American Comics 2007.

The second volume in the new annual collection. Sure to have a ton of great stuff. Can't wait to get my copy.

Unless you read the Mome anthology, which in that case you'll probably be seeing a lot of stuff for the second time.

You're already getting Criminal and Astro City. It's a little late to push Ultimate Fantastic Four and it's a book I'm always simply satisfied with rather than thrilled with anyway.

But why in the world aren't you getting Spirit?

Wow. Small week for me.

I recommend Boneyard - a good pick although in mid story arc if I recall correctly, might be better to get he 1st trade and go forward.

So in leiu of that, I also recommend JLA w/ McDuffie.

Definitely THE SPIRIT #10. Its Cooke goodness.
If not that, UNCLE SAM & THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS #1

Everything I'm buying that you're not is in mid-arc, but I'd recommend Crossing Midnight #11. It's only the second issue of this arc, and it's a good one so far.

Punisher MAX Annual #1 might be a good choice just to check out what you think of Mike Benson's writing, seeing as how he's taking over Moon Knight and we all know how much you like Moon Knight.

Thanks for supporting LEFT ON MISSION!

Best,

The Order came out early? We didn't get it.

I was going to say the Order, but if not then The Initiative.

What, no Iron Man #22?

The Knaufs are doing some interesting work on the book here, nice art from De La Torre, highly underrated run they have going...
