Wait...I thought Huntress was 49 and Mister Miracle 50. You have it the other way around here.

This is the correct order. That order was a mistake.

Ambush Bug Rules!!!!

Ambush Bug should be #1 darnit

Hey Brian,

Will you be publishing you final master list like this? I would like to know who is #150 too! While I am sure that Wally West will be within the next 25 (meaning that 4 Flashes made the top 50), some of my other picks (like Blue Beetle - Jaime Reyes or Captain Boomerang - Owen Mercer) probably don't have a chance. I would like to see where they actually placed, if not in the top 100.

I'll probably work something out in the future, Rob.

The Jaime Reyes iteration of Blue Beetle was #5 on my list, Rob. I've got your back.

I had Jaime #8 on mine, so here's hoping he still has a chance...

This is a really solid list. Just two quibbles:

1.It really doesn't seem right to combine the votes for Helena Bertinelli and Helena Wayne. They're two very different characters.

2. Some people raised this concern at the time, but it really seems odd to count creator owned characters like Brown, Custer, and Jerusalem alongside the rest, especially when Walker and Pilgrim weren't eligible in the Marvel poll.

1. I just addressed the same Huntress question on the entry with her on it. But to recap what I said there, I don't think the two Huntresses ARE really all that separate people. She just had to have her origin changed, much like Power Girl.

2. Brown, Custer and Jersualem are all, in part, owned by DC Comics. Marvel does not own Pilgrim and Walker at all.

Huntress is a weird one. Like, it's basically the same character, but with different parents. But the parents were so important to the Earth-2 version. (And, IIRC, the current Huntress as well.)

Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not some "Oh, DUH, OBVIOUSLY they should count as two characters!" thing. But when it comes down to it, I think it is more equitable this way than for Huntress to NOT make the list at all for said reason (and don't get me wrong, if she missed out, the character who would take her place is one I like a whole lot better, so I have no vested interest in her making the Top 50).

With the exception of three aliens, everybody on the list either is or appears to be Caucasian. And I don't see that changing in the top ten unless Amanda Waller makes it.

Admittedly, I'm no DC expert, but I thought that Jim Corrigan was black.

But, then again, I also count more than three beings on there which could not be described as human [Martian Manhunter, Dream, Death, Darkseid, The Spectre, Swamp Thing...], so now I'm curious which three you meant.

Spectre and Swamp Thing began as white men. Death and Dream are drawn to appear as white people. (Really, really white. heh.)

J'onn, Darkseid and Bizarro are the three I meant.

BTW- I know Black Adam is Egyptian, which is why I said Caucasian instead of White. Egyptian is considered Caucasion in the admittedly clunky way such things are decided.

He he. I take glee in assuming my first place votes for Huntress helped JUST push her onto the list over Mystery Character #51. :)

As for my take, yeah different origins, etc., but they're still basically the same character. Heck, how many DC characters except for maybe Batman have maintained a consistant origin over the years? Aquaman's has changed. So has Green Arrow's, Black Canary's, Wonder Woman's, Power Girl's, the Justice League's, even some core elements of Superman's have been 'tweaked' over the years, especially following the first Crisis. So, I think Brian did it the right way or else his head would have exploded trying to differentiate between them all...

I just can believe Green Arrow rated so high. Or Hawkeye on the other list.

I like the characters, but archer superheroes are kind of lame.

"I like the characters, but archer superheroes are kind of lame."

It's the Robin Hood thing.

"I just can believe Green Arrow rated so high. Or Hawkeye on the other list. "

Comparable really. Hawkeye was at 8 and Green Arrow at 7.

I'm not as up on DC as I am on Marvel, but I'm very surprised there was no Lobo, especially since he was recently re-introduced in 52. Also I had the impression Adam Strange and Demon were more popular.

And it looks like Jim Gordon's a no-go, also a surprise.

Ok, now that there are 4 places left, which obvious ones are left? Batman, Superman, of course. Who else? Hal Jordan and Wally West?

Hmmm...assuming the final four are Batman, Superman, Wally West, and Hal Jordan, that leaves off some interesting ones.

Some I thought had a good chance of making the list:

Adam Strange
Atom Ray Palmer
Batgirl Cassandra Cain
Bigby The Wolf (from Fables)
Blue Devil
Captain Atom
Com. Jim Gordon
Cyborg
Deadman
Demon Etrigan
Doctor Fate
Green Lantern John Stewart
Harley Quinn
Hawkgirl
Lobo
Lois Lane
Manhunter Kate Spencer
Mary Marvel
Mister Terrific II
Phantom Stranger
Raven
Sgt. Rock
Starfire
Stargirl
Superboy/Connor Kent
Wonder Girl/Cassie Sandsmark

And of course, the most glaring omission so far- Supergirl (no comment)

No Legion Of Super-Heroes members either. Then again, none of them really stick out above the others, except for maybe one of the original three...

I'm guessing Liberty Belle, Mary Marvel and Hawkgirl must be in the top 5.

No John Stewart or Cyborg. But Huntress, Ambush Bug, Alan Scott and others made the list?
