Help me buy my comics this week!

It’s that time again …

The list of comics that ship this week is here.  The comics I will plunk down money for are below:

Faker #4

Infinity Inc. #2

JLA/Hitman #2

Welcome to Tranquility #11

Parade (with Fireworks) #2

The Weapon #4

Super-Villain Team-Up #4

Uncanny X-Men #491

Black Diamond #4

Gamekeeper #5

Batman Chronicles vol. 4 TPB

Lost Squad TPB

I will point out some things I WILL NOT be buying, even if you suggest them, for various reasons:

Conan #44 – I read this in trade paperback format.

Samurai: Heaven and Earth vol. 2 – I already have it, but it’s very good, so you might like it.

Metal Men #3 – Waiting for the trade.

Essential Moon Knight vol. 2 – I already own the issues, but this is the volume you should get, because it features Bill Sienkiewicz becoming, you know, BILL SIENKIEWICZ.  Stunning art and very good stories.

Iron Man: Enter the Mandarin #2 – Waiting for the trade.

Omega the Unknown #1 – Probably waiting for the trade, but I’ll still check it out in the store.

So there you have it.  Just to save you some things that I’m sure (or know) are pretty good and why I’m skipping them.  Everything else is fair game!  So what am I missing that you’re sure is excellent?  Let me know!

I wouldn’t mind hearing how horribly they screw up Howard the Duck.

I’m a broken record on FF&Power Pack so I guess I’ll shut up there.

I think this issue of Detective is the Riddler/Harley one so that should be as good as any Dini does.

Oh just get the freaking Question trade.

It’s amazingly, astoundingly awesome. One of the best things ever.

You’re buying pretty much everything I was positive I was going to buy this week anyway, but I’m strongly considering the Wolverine Annual solely for Marcelo Frusin’s art. The story seems remarkably similar to that of the Punisher MAX annual last week, but Frusin’s work looks quite promising and is enough to get me interested in the execution.

Definitely the Question trade. One of the best comics of the last 20 years.

So I’m going to get Howard the Duck, just to see how it is. Hopefully, it’ll be good, ’cause, you know– Templeton and Bobillo! We shall see, I guess.

I also suggest picking up the first issue of Vertigo’s new Vinyl Underground series. It’s an occult detective series with a bit of a music motif going on, and it looks pretty intriguing. Really, it’s the first Vertigo series I’ve been inclined to check out in quite a while.

Also, I can’t wait for Omega the Unknown. I’ve been anticipating it since announced. Even if the story sucks, the art will be beautiful.

Not getting Dini’s Detective anymore? Neither am I, actually, because I find it dull, but…

And there’s Lobster Johnson, but that’s probably something that would be better in the inevitable trade…

However: Gumby #3! Because it’s Gumby! And it’s insane! Woo!

Jack of Fables? Although, if you are not reading it already, I assume it has been tried and rejected.

How about Jonah Hex. I was skeptical at first, but here I am 24 issues later and enjoying it. Overall it is high quality, done-in-one storytelling with a bit of warped morality. There have been a few duds in the bunch, but it has been a consistently strong read (even for people like me who are not fans of either the genre or the earlier series).

This week it’s gonna be for me: Lobster Johnson, Action Comics, Atom, Countdown, Detective Comics, Infinity Inc 2, Jack of fables, JLA/Hitman, Jonah hex, Metal Men, Vynal underground, Welcome to Tranquillity, Howard the Duck, Uncany X men, Modocks 11,

and the Question trade.

Holy Shites that’s a lot of comics

Um…instead of me telling you a comic you should buy, how would you like to buy my comics for me? lol

Try Futurama Comics #33. It’ll be a fun sci-fi comedy great for fans of the show and accessible to first-timers (in case you didn’t want to plunk down for the trade last week!)

The Exterminators has been a very good series since it launched, check out the trade!

Get that Jonah Hex! It’s my favorite comic!

Stupid fleshy things! Buy Ms. Marvel #20!

And MODOK’S 11.

Unless I hear wonderful things about Infinity Inc., I’m gonna skip it this month. Because, seriously, the first issue didn’t really make a whole lot of sense. Also being skipped due to this reason? Metal Men.

And I’m also going to be buying Cyborg Superman, because, well, I’m a sucker for Cyborg Superman. Even if it sucked ass, I’d buy it. That’s just the way I am when my favorite characters are concerned.

I just read that the second Empowered book by Adam Warren comes out this week, and I definitely recommend that. Lots and lots of fun.

Heh, Ms. Marvel. It is truly wonderful how they have swiped Machine Man right from the pages of Nextwave.

Dude! Lobster Johnson FTW!

Wait, I just used dude as a sentence. That sucks. Anyways:
Lobster Johnson, Scalped, Midnighter, Bomb Queen, MAX Sampler, Wolverine Annual, NOT SHANNA THE SHE-DEVIL, Pirates Vs. Ninjas (can’t help myself).

There’s the complete Jon Sable Freelance vol. 8 which features the last interior work by Grell on that title – he remains the writer (and cover artist) for the remainder of the series.

Everything you wanted to know about the new Battlestar Galactica tv series before Season One, then check out Season 0 # 2 from DE.

Since I can’t say Metal Men (the last page of the last issue was incredibly entertaining to me), I will say Jack of Fables.

It isn’t as good as Fables, but it is still pretty good… usually. The Ice Queen incredibly extended two parter is the exception.

What the-?! You’re not buying the Question trade? That should definitely be your pick of the week. Dennis O’Neil and Denys Cowan at the top of their game, with martial arts, zen philosophy, political intrigue, religious commentary, and Bill “Essential Moon Knight Volume 2″ Sienkiewicz on covers. I think you would love it. This series is why so many people voted for Vic Sage on the Top 50 DC Characters poll.

I’m going to hop on the Question bandwagon here. Everyone should buy this trade, so DC will put out the whole series. My single issues are getting ragged…

2 suggestions:

Jonah Hex #24- Probably DC’s best monthly comic. Great done in one issues. The writing is solid, the artwork is always top notch. There hasn’t been an issue that I didn’t like.

Vinyl Underground #1- New series so you won’t have any back story or other opinions clouding your judgement.

I was surprised that you’re not already getting Jack of Fables – so that’s what I’ll recommend.

Ah crap.

I totally missed the new Jason book. (I Killed Adolph Hitler.)

Get that, for the love of God!

Devil’s Due has an original graphic novel featuring various creators’ takes on Troma movies hitting the shelves this week titled “Lloyd Kaufman Presents the Toxic Avenger and Other Tromatic Tales.” If you love comics, cult movies, punk rock and/or the trashy fun of Troma, this book is right for you. So hey, why not give it a shot?

And yes, I’m pitching this because I wrote the Class of Nuke ‘Em High story in the book. Shameless self-promotion rules!!!

Parade (With Fireworks) #2. No one needs more superheroes in their life, so try this historical piece from Shadowline.

If you live in L.A. check out The Applicants #1!

Available in local comic shops.

The first issue introduces about 25 new characters, including BOOBS O’PLENTY, DIRTY SANCHEZ, LADY GRAIN, THE CONJOINED WONDER TWINS, THE MINDGRINDER, and more!

The second issue will be out in about a month.

Check out http://www.theapplicants.com for more info!

I’ll second Jason’s I Killed Adolf Hitler.
